Student-Led Conferences
Last Thursday and Friday, iLEAD Lancaster learners and families had the opportunity to experience Student-Led Conferences. Learners were proactive, demonstrating leadership skills through preparation and organization and taking families around the classrooms to various stations or through thoughtfully organized leadership notebooks.

These conferences help ensure that learners are accountable to their families, their facilitators, and the school community as a whole. In addition, the experience creates a powerful incentive for learners to develop their skills through the communication of high expectations, display of meaningful work, and opportunities to showcase talents in modalities that best suit students' distinct learning styles.

The feedback from the iLEAD staff and community has been excellent. Please let us know your thoughts about your experience at the Student-Led Conferences. Thank you for your participation!

New Traffic Pattern
Our street has received an upgrade to the traffic flow. We have been working diligently with the city of Lancaster to ensure learner safety and easier pick-up, and this traffic plan has been designed for those very reasons. Please note and observe new signs and traffic patterns and be sure to keep our neighboring driveways unobstructed to prevent unwanted traffic tickets.

Remember Your Valet Card
Please remember to bring your valet card when you pick up your learners through valet. Although we've gotten to know many of you, having your valet card makes it easier to identify you and call for your child. Occasionally someone besides Andrew may be calling for learners on the walkie-talkie. Having the valet card visible makes the system more efficient. We thank you for your support as we work to keep our learners safe and our valet system running smoothly.
From Lancaster, California, It's iSTRUM Live!
Mr. Andrew, the Exploratorium facilitator and a self-taught guitarist, is ready to bring iSTRUM Live! to iLEAD Lancaster Learners. iSTRUM Live! will give our learners an opportunity to learn to play guitar and read music, while developing a cohesive musical group.

Got Guitars?
With guitar in his hand and love of music in his heart, Mr. Andrew invites you to partner with him in collecting acoustic guitars, preferably with steel strings. Spread the word that the Guitar Man is in town and needs donations of guitars for our learners! And if you see our learners learning to strum at the amphitheater with Mr. Andrew, be sure to stop a moment to listen and enjoy! It's always a good day at iLEAD!

We Need Our Learners at School
Why is attendance an important issue?

Did you know?
Regular attendance is vital to a learner's  success in school. The learner who is frequently absent misses social interaction and opportunities for project exploration. Any day or hour absent is a missed learning opportunity.

Did you know? A school loses funding for each absence, regardless of the reason.

Did you know? Learners who are going to be absent for any length of time may be able to go on independent study. Please contact the school about the possibility of going on short-term independent study.

To report an absence, please call the office or send a note.
Parking Reminder - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
We thank you for listening to us and being good neighbors to the businesses around us. Since we sent out our notification phone call, our families have listened and have parked in the iLEAD Lancaster parking lots.

iLEAD families are invited to park in the lots to the immediate east and west sides of the school.
Please do not park in the east lot that is farther away from our school. That is not part of iLEAD Lancaster Charter School. Cars parked there may be ticketed or towed. Use only the first driveway east of the school.

Don't Forget Your Volunteer Hours
iLEAD seeks to make education a community passion. To this end, parent participation is essential to the success of the education process.  It is because of families like you that we are able to offer such a unique program for our children here at iLEAD. Families attending iLEAD agree to commit to 4 hours per month or 40 hours per year of participation.

Examples of iLEAD Family Volunteer Work
  • In-class support as an educator aide
  • Adult workshops: parents teaching other parents
  • Attending Parent University offerings (Love and Logic, 7 Habits)
  • Outside research in support of specific school projects
  • Coordinating or assisting at a school community event (family movie night, science night, math night)
  • Driving on field trips (must register as driver)

Families having difficulties meeting the participation commitment should contact Office Manager Laura Henriquez at laura.henriquez@ileadschools.org or stop by the office to speak with her.

We thank our families who are volunteering their time and talent, and we look forward to having all our families participate as part of our school community.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Habit of the Month: SYNERGIZE
Habit 6 is Synergize. It is the habit of creative cooperation, in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

A highly valued skill for the 21st century is cooperation, the ability to work with like-minded groups of people to achieve new and better solutions. Synergy encourages innovation, invention, and what is known as The Third AlternativeIn other words, together we can find a better way.

Diverse perspectives encourage healthy problem solving. Differences are celebrated and respected; they do not divide and fragment. While Habit 4 seeks mutual benefit and compromise, Habit 6 looks for a better, more creative alternative. Synergizing is a creative process that explores new possibilities to benefit everybody.

What does this look like in the classroom? Sometimes it is a group effort to create an art piece or some aspect of a current project. Young learners work together to build things, put puzzles together, and contribute something that is worthwhile to the classroom and community. Synergy is used to present and solve classroom problems and come up with ideas to improve social and emotional communication. Practicing synergy weaves a strong foundation for further learning and better, more positive communication.

Each learner's unique contribution may have innate value or it might be capable of standing alone. It is difficult at times because using synergy means having a lot of internal security. It often means stepping out of your comfort zone.

The collective efforts bring about something wonderful. New energy and excitement is created and we tend to see things in a new light. Relationships are transformed as we internalize and practice this habit.

iLEAD Sparkles
5th Graders Study Water
Our 5th graders have learned all about the water cycle. They created their own projects to show their knowledge of how water cycles through our planet, and we did an experiment in which we made it rain inside a container! Now we're finding possible solutions to the drought in California, the U.S., and other places in our world.

6th and 7th Graders Soar with Music

Our 6th and 7th graders learned about the parts of a glider with music! It was exciting to watch the kids light up and play in drum circles. They were feeling it in their souls! Our 6th graders are also learning about the energy of flight, and last Friday they had the amazing folks from Soaring Academy bring out their glider to teach the kids. Five lucky learners even won a flight! Live long and soar high!

History Comes Alive for GoSchoolers
What does one do on a Friday evening? Hang out with GoSchoolers, of course!

iLEAD's Birdcage Theatre presented its second performance of the school year with the musical comedy "Theseus & the Minotaur." The show was a playful adaptation of the Greek myth by the same name, in which Theseus and his friend Bill journey through Ancient Greece and prove their worth and heroic status by taming the junk-food-loving Minotaur of the labyrinth with his favorite treats.

GoSchoolers Collin, Paige, Tripp, Zack, Monica, Sean, Theresa, Vanessa, Faith, Tiana, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Sarah have been working hard for 10 weeks rehearsing lines, learning songs, and making all their own costumes under the guidance of their esteemed director and fellow actor Miss Angelica. Several learners even played more than one part! We can't wait to see what the Birdcage Theatre has in store for us next year!

Afterwards, a good old-fashioned 1950s-style sock hop filled the Village! Hula hoops, bubblegum chewing, poodle skirts, hamburgers and milkshakes, and leather jackets abounded! Songs like "Johnny B. Good" and "Peggy Sue" brought history alive as the golden setting sun streamed through the big windows. Although the children knew of only fun and food, grandparents had a twinkle of nostalgia in their eyes. Everyone had a great time!
