Our street has received an upgrade to the traffic flow. We have been working diligently with the city of Lancaster to ensure learner safety and easier pick-up, and this traffic plan has been designed for those very reasons. Please note and observe new signs and traffic patterns and be sure to keep our neighboring driveways unobstructed to prevent unwanted traffic tickets.

Student-Led Conferences Thursday and Friday, 4/23-24

Student-Led Conferences continues this Thursday and Friday. These conferences give our learners the opportunity to lead their parents through a series of stations, showing what has been learned and what progress has been made socially, academically, and as a leader. This is in keeping with our philosophy that, over time, learners take more and more control of their education. Look for information from your child's facilitator about scheduling a Student-Led Conference.

Last weekend, several of our families stopped by to see us as we talked to the community about iLEAD Lancaster Charter School. Thanks to everyone who came by to say hello.
We'll be at the Shop Local Showcase at the AV Fairgrounds on May 3. Hope to see you there!

Remember Your Valet Card

Please remember to bring your valet card when you pick up your learners through valet. Although we've gotten to know many of you, having your valet card makes it easier to identify you and call for your child. Occasionally someone besides Andrew may be calling for learners on the walkie-talkie. Having the valet card visible makes the system more efficient. We thank you for your support as we work to keep our learners safe and our valet system running smoothly.

From Lancaster, California, It's iSTRUM Live!

Mr. Andrew, the Exploratorium facilitator and a self-taught guitarist, is ready to bring iSTRUM Live! to iLEAD Lancaster Learners. iSTRUM Live! will give our learners an opportunity to learn to play guitar and read music, while developing a cohesive musical group.
Got Guitars? With guitar in his hand and love of music in his heart, Mr. Andrew invites you to partner with him in collecting acoustic guitars, preferably with steel strings. Spread the word that the Guitar Man is in town and needs donations of guitars for our learners! And if you see our learners learning to strum at the amphitheater with Mr. Andrew, be sure to stop a moment to listen and enjoy! It's always a good day at iLEAD!

We Need Our Learners at School

Why is attendance an important issue?
Did you know?
Regular attendance is vital to a learner's success in school. The learner who is frequently absent misses social interaction and opportunities for project exploration. Any day or hour absent is a missed learning opportunity.
Did you know? A school loses funding for each absence, regardless of the reason.
Did you know? Learners who are going to be absent for any length of time may be able to go on independent study. Please contact the school about the possibility of going on short-term independent study.
To report an absence, please call the office or send a note.

Parking Reminder - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

We thank you for listening to us and being good neighbors to the businesses around us. Since we sent out our notification phone call, our families have listened and have parked in the iLEAD Lancaster parking lots.
iLEAD families are invited to park in the lots to the immediate east and west sides of the school.
Please do not park in the east lot that is farther away from our school. That is not part of iLEAD Lancaster Charter School. Cars parked there may be ticketed or towed. Use only the first driveway east of the school.

Don't Forget Your Volunteer Hours

iLEAD seeks to make education a community passion. To this end, parent participation is essential to the success of the education process. It is because of families like you that we are able to offer such a unique program for our children here at iLEAD. Families attending iLEAD agree to commit to 4 hours per month or 40 hours per year of participation.
Examples of iLEAD Family Volunteer Work
- In-class support as an educator aide
- Adult workshops: parents teaching other parents
- Attending Parent University offerings (Love and Logic, 7 Habits)
- Outside research in support of specific school projects
- Coordinating or assisting at a school community event (family movie night, science night, math night)
- Driving on field trips (must register as driver)
- Hosting an activity in your home or business
- Coaching or operating an after-school enrichment class
- Organizing a community service project for learners
- Supervising at the school: lunch periods, front desk
- Assisting with morning valet
- Operation support: maintenance of the campus
- Recruiting event participation (booths, fairs, marketing materials)
Families having difficulties meeting the participation commitment should contact Office Manager Laura Henriquez at laura.henriquez@ileadschools.org or stop by the office to speak with her.
We thank our families who are volunteering their time and talent, and we look forward to having all our families participate as part of our school community.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Habit of the Month: SYNERGIZE
| | Habit 6 is Synergize. It is the habit of creative cooperation, in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
A highly valued skill for the 21st century is cooperation, the ability to work with like-minded groups of people to achieve new and better solutions. Synergy encourages innovation, invention, and what is known as The Third Alternative. In other words, together we can find a better way.
Diverse perspectives encourage healthy problem solving. Differences are celebrated and respected; they do not divide and fragment. While Habit 4 seeks mutual benefit and compromise, Habit 6 looks for a better, more creative alternative. Synergizing is a creative process that explores new possibilities to benefit everybody.
What does this look like in the classroom? Sometimes it is a group effort to create an art piece or some aspect of a current project. Young learners work together to build things, put puzzles together, and contribute something that is worthwhile to the classroom and community. Synergy is used to present and solve classroom problems and come up with ideas to improve social and emotional communication. Practicing synergy weaves a strong foundation for further learning and better, more positive communication.
Each learner's unique contribution may have innate value or it might be capable of standing alone. It is difficult at times because using synergy means having a lot of internal security. It often means stepping out of your comfort zone.
The collective efforts bring about something wonderful. New energy and excitement is created and we tend to see things in a new light. Relationships are transformed as we internalize and practice this habit.

3rd Graders Do Beautiful Work Way to go, 3rd graders! It's third grade's first year taking the SBAC, and although it can be very challenging, they're pushing through. Last Tuesday was their POL on the solar system. Learners researched and made a convincing argument why people should visit their planet. There are only eight weeks of school left, and they would like to finish it with lifelong memories. 4th Graders Investigate the Power of Water The 4th grade team has started a new project they're very excited about, working to answer the question "What is the power of water?" They're investigating this question through a variety of science experiments and research. They look forward to continuing to investigate and explore water in our world. This week the 4th graders will be showing their parents all their growth this year with Student-Led Conferences.
