7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Habit of the Month: BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND
iLEAD Schools embrace the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, from the best-selling book by Dr. Stephen R. Covey. The habits are simple and based upon principles that stand the test of time.
Habit 2 is Begin with the End in Mind. Embracing this habit means that, instead of living by default, we live by design with a clear definition of our desired results. How do we wish to be remembered? What will be our legacy?
Beginning with the end in mind requires a mind-set that envisions the outcome before any actions. It creates a criteria for determining what is important in our lives and what wastes our precious time. Internalizing Habit 2 means that we have to make a plan and remember that "things that matter most should never be at the mercy of things that matter least" (Johann Goethe).
Dr. Covey suggests envisioning and creating a personal mission statement. This serves to clarify what is important to you. It provides focus and helps you design your own life instead of having your life defined for you.
In the classroom, we simplify this by telling our learners that, for the important things we do, we have to make a plan. The plans are usually simple and always developmentally appropriate. Older learners may create multiple steps in order to achieve a goal, whereas young learners might have a short list of actions that will culminate in a class or individual project. iLEAD learners have Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) that change as goals are met and progress is achieved.

iLEAD Lancaster Health and Wellness Policy
We encourage our families to provide healthy food choices for meals and snacks. For birthday celebrations and other class celebrations, we encourage non-edible items (bubbles, stationery, pencils, etc.), or the donation of a book to the class. If families want to bring in baked items, we ask that parents choose treats listed in our Health and Wellness Policy or that are as healthy and organic as possible. Please speak to your child's facilitator prior to bringing in items for celebrations. We look forward to assisting our families in establishing and maintaining lifelong healthy eating habits.

iLEAD Sparkles
Kindergarteners Experience Global Traditions
iLEAD's kindergarten learners have been traveling! After a week of preparation that included making passports, luggage, and packing lists, they boarded a classroom "plane" and visited a variety of countries around the world to learn about various holiday traditions.
Did you know that the commonalities of these multicultural celebrations make learning about them fun and interesting? Connections can be made with learners' own family traditions and those honored around the world! All cultures celebrate light, charity, special food, the giving of gifts, and family. Destinations included Mexico, Peru, Brazil, England, Germany, Israel, and Italy. The children learned about the Muslim tradition of EID and the African American holiday of Kwanzaa.
Feliz Navidad!
1st Grade Biologists
The reveal of the next project for the 1st grade learners happened last week! Since the learners had done such an amazing job on their solar system project, they decided to take the learning to the next level and begin studying the Amazing Human Body that lives on this Amazing Planet Earth. With stethoscopes in their hands, our learners started their new project by discussing what they already know about the human body and what they want to learn by the end of their project. The learners will research how the human body works and the importance of taking care of it. In alignment with our healthy food policy, the learners will get a better understanding of how to keep their human bodies so amazing. Who knows? We may have a few more doctors and scientists on planet Earth as a result.
