We are still waiting to hear what number we are in the parade and where we will be lining up on 10th Street West. As soon as we have this information, we will notify you. In the meantime, please e-mail Laura at laura.henriquez@ileadschools.org if your family will be walking with us in the parade.

7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Habit of the Month: BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND

iLEAD Schools embrace the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, from the best-selling book by Dr. Stephen R. Covey. The habits are simple and based upon principles that stand the test of time.

Habit 2 is Begin with the End in Mind. Embracing this habit means that, instead of living by default, we live by design with a clear definition of our desired results. How do we wish to be remembered? What will be our legacy?

Beginning with the end in mind requires a mind-set that envisions the outcome before any actions. It creates a criteria for determining what is important in our lives and what wastes our precious time. Internalizing Habit 2 means that we have to make a plan and remember that "things that matter most should never be at the mercy of things that matter least" (Johann Goethe).

Dr. Covey suggests envisioning and creating a personal mission statement. This serves to clarify what is important to you. It provides focus and helps you design your own life instead of having your life defined for you.

In the classroom, we simplify this by telling our learners that, for the important things we do, we have to make a plan. The plans are usually simple and always developmentally appropriate. Older learners may create multiple steps in order to achieve a goal, whereas young learners might have a short list of actions that will culminate in a class or individual project. iLEAD learners have Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) that change as goals are met and progress is achieved.

iLEAD Lancaster has adopted a Health and Wellness Policy. Click here to view the entire policy

We encourage our families to provide healthy food choices for meals and snacks. For birthday celebrations and other class celebrations, we encourage non-edible items (bubbles, stationery, pencils, etc.), or the donation of a book to the class. If families want to bring in baked items, we ask that parents choose treats listed in our Health and Wellness Policy or that are as healthy and organic as possible. Please speak to your child's facilitator prior to bringing in items for celebrations. We look forward to assisting our families in establishing and maintaining lifelong healthy eating habits.

4th Graders Explore California Missions
The 4th grade team has been busy at work creating maps, blueprints, and visuals to prove why, where, and how the 22nd California mission should be built. They're looking forward to having a guest speaker come in after break to help them with creating blueprints. They're also looking forward to visiting the San Buenaventura Mission on December 10.

5th Graders Study Historical Figures
Our 5th grade learners have been studying California mission history. At their next Presentation of Learning in mid-December, each will "become" a historical figure from that time period and tell visitors all about what their life is like.

The learners are also working hard on reading comprehension, spelling, and descriptive writing. They are busy every day working on having better relationships with each other, reaching their leadership goals, and reflecting on their progress.
