Costume Parade
Friday, October 31
9 a.m.
Everyone is welcome to join the fun on Friday as our learners participate in our third annual iLEAD Lancaster costume parade. We will be walking through all the learning spaces and through our play space (back area) so we can enjoy all the costumes. Come join our parade or stand along the parade route and cheer us on! Costumes should be in good taste, should not be scary, and should not impair the learners' ability to see or walk. Swords, knives, guns, and other items should be left at home.

The Imagination Playground Is Here!
iLEAD learners are having a fantastic time with the Imagination Playground. From creating a train to a treadmill to a racetrack, our learners are truly using their imaginations to create. They're sharing and collaborating through dramatic, constructive, and gross-motor play.
Unlike toys, which often are limited in the number of ways you can play with them, the Imagination Playground blocks are open-ended. They empower our learners to use their imaginations to build their own worlds, rather than inhabit one we create for them. Our learners try new things and stretch their abilities. They experience their own triumphs and accomplishments. They make their own mistakes and learn their own lessons. And they love doing it.

iLEAD Lancaster Health and Wellness Policy
We encourage our families to provide healthy food choices for meals and snacks. For birthday celebrations and other class celebrations, we encourage non-edible items (bubbles, stationery, pencils, etc.), or the donation of a book to the class. If families want to bring in baked items, we ask that parents choose treats listed in our Health and Wellness Policy or that are as healthy and organic as possible. Please speak to your child's facilitator prior to bringing in items for celebrations. We look forward to assisting our families in establishing and maintaining lifelong healthy eating habits.

iLEAD Sparkles
iLEAD GoSchoolers: A Day in the Life
On the home front of an iLEAD GoSchool family, many adventures and discoveries take place. Let's take a closer look at one of our families.
Did you know there is science to explore in a plastic water bottle? This unlikely discovery hijacked one family's science exploration recently when first grader Aidan observed that when he dropped his water bottle and it rolled downhill, the air on top of the water was pulled to the center. He experimented again and again, changing conditions and observing.
The result? He ended up with more questions than answers--a highly successful home school day, given that it propelled more learner-directed learning.
Often Aidan's learning sparks curiosity in 5th grader Hannah, and vice versa. Hannah's exploring ecosystems in her science curriculum at home, and it's connecting nicely with her work when she joins the 5th graders on campus at iLEAD Lancaster a few days a week.
This family uses principles from many educational philosophies, especially Montessori. Aidan and Hannah's mom appreciates home schooling through iLEAD for the support and freedom to, as Dr. Montessori once wrote, "Follow the child!" She can't wait to see what they want to learn next.
6th and 7th Graders Integrate Science and Social Studies
Presentations of Learning (POLs) are underway in middle school! Our 6th and 7th grade learners discovered the differences between animal and plant cells in science. In social studies, they are researching ancient Rome. We will integrate the subjects when the learners build a part of ancient Rome, comparing it to the cell.
