iLEAD Lancaster Valet Service
THE VALET LINE IS MOVING FASTER! THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE! iLEAD families: Please do not block the driveways of the businesses on K-4. We need to be good neighbors and keep their driveways clear. Thank you! iLEAD Lancaster has a convenient valet service for our families. In the morning: MORNING DROP-OFF BEGINS AT 8:00. Please enter Avenue K-4 from the west and pull in to the driveway at the west end of our school. (You'll see a valet attendant in a bright vest to direct you.) Drive around the back of the school where another valet attendant will open your car door and help your children exit the car. The learners will enter the building through the back door. Please do not park in this area. If you would like to come into the school, please park in our parking lot and enter through the reception area. In the afternoon: VALET BEGINS AT 3:00. Please enter Avenue K-4 from the west and pull in to the driveway at the west end of our school. Do not turn left into the driveway, as it blocks traffic. (You'll see a valet attendant in a bright vest to direct you.) Have your bright-orange valet card (available in the office) on the driver's side of your dash. An iLEAD staff member will read the last name written on your valet card and use a walkie-talkie to have your child come out to your car. We will be loading cars in the order in which they are parked. After picking up your child(ren), drive slowly out to the front of the school and turn right onto Avenue K-4. This will help prevent traffic congestion. We thank you for your continued support of our valet system.

iLEAD Lancaster Health and Wellness Policy
We encourage our families to provide healthy food choices for meals and snacks. For birthday celebrations and other class celebrations, we encourage non-edible items (bubbles, stationery, pencils, etc.), or the donation of a book to the class. If families want to bring in baked items, we ask that parents choose treats listed in our Health and Wellness Policy or that are as healthy and organic as possible. Please speak to your child's facilitator prior to bringing in items for celebrations. We look forward to assisting our families in establishing and maintaining lifelong healthy eating habits.

 iLEAD Artists Create Macchias
iLEAD's resident artists started this school year's art program with a colorful and rather hot start!
After studying the work of American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, the younger learners decorated coffee filter macchias that resembled the bowl-like structures made famous by the artist. Older learners decorated clear plastic cups and plates with Sharpies. Since actual glass-blowing was not a feasible option (yet!), our sculptors added heat to shape their creations into pieces that actually resemble colorful blown glass. With careful supervision, the artists used a toaster oven or a heat gun to form their pieces.
Sixth and seventh grade learners were able to use a longer "art lab" period to expand their experimental work from the previous week, combining plates and cups to create actual structures--abstract, colorful, and unique.
The K-1 macchias are currently on display in the iLEAD lobby. Keep an eye out for some of our other pieces to go on display this week.

iLEAD Sparkles
No Time for Germs--It's Time for Hip-Hop in 3rd Grade It's been a good beginning to the new school year in third grade. Learners have been learning about germs and how to avoid getting each other sick, having some fun in the process. After learning some new information about prevention, they finished with a self-portrait of themselves modeling how to prevent a sneeze from spreading to their neighbors. Hip-hop also started this past week. Learners couldn't get enough and made the most of their time. Thank you, Miss Sheynel. It wasn't all fun and games, though. Learners made the connection back to germs--that dancing and exercise make you stronger and help fight off those pesky bugs.
5th Graders Create Ecosystems
iLEAD fifth graders have been very busy learning about and creating their own ecosystems! If you walk through our learning space, you may see some critters! Learners have created their own self-sustaining aquatic ecosystems complete with live minnows in a two-liter soda bottle. Models of the forest and the desert are soon to be complete. We also have some insects, and a few pets have visited as well.
Learners are studying and analyzing the relationships among plants, animals, humans, microorganisms and non-living components in each ecosystem. Soon they will "discover" a previously unknown ecosystem and as scientists will prove to the iLEAD community the relationship of each living and non-living component in their brand-new ecosystem for their first PBL!
To complement our study of ecosystems with service and entrepreneurship, many learners have joined the Recycling Club headed up by Mr. E. These learners will visit all areas of the school and handle the business of recycling our paper and plastic. Please be sure to ask any 5th grader about recycling and ecosystems!
