House and Senate Reach Tentative Agreement on MAP-21 Extension
| |

House and Senate leaders came to a tentative agreement May 11 on the length of a Highway Trust Fund patch. Reports are saying Congress will look to pass an extension of MAP-21 that lasts until the end of the calendar year. As with anything in Congress, the situation remains fluid. Additional information will be sent as it becomes available.
"ACT is disappointed that Congress is unable to pass a long-term transportation bill that will deliver a smarter transportation system," said ACT President Rob Henry. "However, we are grateful that Congress is taking steps to avoid going over a funding cliff by taking actions to pass a short-term patch. ACT calls on Congress to continue working toward a long-term bill and use the coming months to pass legislation that will make our transportation system smarter and more efficient."

Real-time Transportation Information Display Comes to Tysons
| |

Wells + Associates ( W+A) and strategic partner TransitScreen recently announced the debut of projection-based real-time transportation information at Tysons Corner Center in Virginia, a retail-anchored mixed-use development along the new Metrorail Silver Line near Washington, D.C. The transportation information feed is displayed on a glass foyer along the concourse leading to The Plaza at Tysons Corner Center. The Plaza connects the shopping center, office building, and apartments, which are adjacent to the pedestrian bridge accessing the Tysons Corner Silver Line station.
The real-time transportation information display includes bus and rail information as well as the twitter feed for @AccessTysons, the TDM program for the large retail establishment. The dynamic information display tells travelers who take transit how much time they have before their ride arrives and serves as a reminder of how many convenient transportation choices there are besides driving.
"We see this as a way to engage SOV drivers with information directly relevant to their commute while providing a comparison of the other frequent and readily available transportation choices," explained Justin Schor, senior TDM specialist at W+A.
