Music for the Holidays!

All of North High's music programs will be in concert this month and you are invited to come hear them.

The Orchestra starts things off with its concert in the school auditorium on Wednesday, December 11, at 7 pm.  Two orchestras and various ensembles will perform.  There is no cost to this or any of the other concerts the music groups are putting on.

At noon on Tuesday, December 17, the Nordic Choir, the "varsity" of the choral groups, will perform in the Rotunda of the State Capitol building. This is an amazing venue, with echoing acoustics.

The next day, Wednesday, December 18, the Viking Band program will present "The Festival of Trees" at the school.  Starting at 6:30 pm in the school lobby, there will be baked goods, a raffle, voting on the "favorite" decorated tree, as well as an opportunity to purchase the trees.  At 7, the band and its ensemble will be in concert in the auditorium.

Last, but not at all least, the North High Choirs will perform in concert on Thursday, December 19, in the school auditorium.  Again, there will be no cost for any of the performances.

North's various music groups have placed well in recent years in State competitions and their performances are always really wonderful!

Winter Sports

All Viking winter sports are under way.  Boys' and girls' basketball, wrestling and swimming teams have begun competition.

Operating Fund Campaign

Our campaign to raise operating expenses for the Viking Association is under way.  Our association is dues-free and non-profit, but in order to carry out our mission (see Mission Statement in the sidebar), we do need funds.

Annually we give at least $2000 in scholarships, in addition to grants to the school itself.  We sponsor the unique North High Hall of Fame, operate a website, a Facebook page, and this newsletter.  Each year we must pay the State and IRS fees to maintain our non-profit status.  And we have mailing expenses as well.  We have no paid staff and no office, so we are keeping our overhead down.

Please join us in keeping this alumni organization vibrant and productive. All donations are tax deductible.  Checks may be made out to "Viking Association" and sent to the Viking Association, care of North Salem High School, 765 14th St. NE, Salem OR 97301.  If you would rather contribute using a credit card. click on the link to our website above on the left, and then click on the "Donate" icon.

A huge thank-you to all who can support us this way!

New Website Feature

We are hoping to start a new feature for our website.  Many of you would like to know when alumni have received honors or participated in noteworthy services to the community or elsewhere.  Send your information to Steve Chambers at the e-mail address below or to the left and we will try to highlight them in a special place on the website.

If you have not already done so, please send to Steve Chambers your full contact information (name, maiden name where applicable, street address, phone number, and graduating class or if your are a friend) as this will help us keep in contact should your e-mail address change.

Please forward this newsletter to other Vikings so they can also stay in touch with the school.
