IAQ APPLICATION: FORMALDEHYDE DETECTION AND MITIGATION   
Last month we announced the availability of new formaldehyde sensors for our handheld gas monitors and the IQM60.  This month we'd like to talk about why this product is significant and why we added it to our gas sensors. 

Formaldehyde is widely used in many building materials and household products.  In particular pressboard and fiberboard used in flooring, cabinets, shelving, and furniture is a major source of the chemical.  It is also present in some textiles and glues.

Did you know that owning a portable particle counter can actually save you money over a less expensive handheld unit? Okay, you're probably thinking "That doesn't sound right; how can I save money by purchasing something that costs more?" That's an excellent question, and one that we'd be happy to answer. 
 
Smaller handheld units are a good tool for spot-checks and initial investigations, but their main drawback is because of their smaller size they have a much smaller pump then the larger portable units.  The pump size directly affects the flow rate of the air into the instrument.  It will take a handheld unit much longer (almost 18 times as long in fact!) to sample the same amount of air as the 50LPM portable unit.
