Today's Lesson:
Remembering to Laugh
Dear Joyful Child of God,

Laughing is the application of ACIM principles.  It's right there in Chapter 27:  "Into eternity, where all is one, there crept a tiny, mad idea, at which the Son of God remembered not to laugh. In his forgetting did the thought become a serious idea, and possible of both accomplishment and real effects. Together, we can laugh them both away, and understand that time cannot intrude upon eternity. It is a joke to think that time can come to circumvent eternity, which means there is no time." T-27.VIII.6:2-5

Dr. Bernie Siegel, the author of Love, Medicine and Miracles, has many stories to tell about the power of laughter.  There's a whole school of yoga devoted to laughter.  Comedian John Cleese says, "Laughter is a force for democracy."  Cancer thriver, as Kris Carr calls herself, has laughed in the face of terminal disease.  Vice president Joe Biden shines light when he shares the tragic death of his wife and daughter.

HOMEWORK
For the next few days, ask the Holy Spirit to help you laugh whenever you feel stressed-out or overwhelmed.
Give your worries to Him, and lean your head on His Shoulder.
Let me know what happens.

HOW TO USE THE BODY WHILE YOU THINK IT'S YOU
unzip the body ACIM teaches us that the Holy Spirit's purpose for the body is to use it as a vehicle for learning, as a communication device.  After many years of working with the Course, the body feels less like "me" and more like a beloved car--a great vehicle in which to get around; a "thing" that I do my best to treat well and maintenance regularly.

In my personal curriculum, yoga has been one way the Holy Spirit has reached my mind through the classroom of my body.  Through my personal trials and tribulations with the body, I have tried all kinds of alternative healing: cranio-sacral therapy, Feldenkrais, every kind of massage you can name (not ashamed to confess I'm a massage junkie), qi gong, tai chi, Afro-Cuban motion, belly dance, Indonesian latihan and much more.

From time to time, I'm going to share how I use the body while I think it's me to help you get the hang of a spiritual relationship with the body.  So stay tuned to this column in future issues of The Unlearning Classroom.
Please feel free to share your stories, comments or questions with me.

If you would be a happy learner, you must give everything you have learned to the Holy Spirit, to be unlearned for you. And then begin to learn the joyous lessons that come quickly on the firm foundation that truth is true.T-14.II.6:1-2
