Dear Friends:
The City of Sebastopol joined more than a dozen other local jurisdictions in California and made Smart Meter installations illegal. PG&E's response was to threaten a lawsuit, refuse service, including marking underground gas lines, and halting new commercial construction work.
The Sebastopol city manager met with PG&E and for now the city has suspended the $500 fine, but the ordinance stands. Residents can still call the police to report an installer.
After PG&E met with the city they went to the Press Democrat. (See letter to the Press democrat below.) So far, it appears PG&E has stopped the deployment on residences in town, however we are finding more Smart Meters on commercial property.
Meanwhile, we are still waiting for the CPUC judge to rule on the legality of charging fees to people with medical conditions who want to keep the analog meter, and for an opportunity to file briefs on community wide Smart Meter opt-out.
Also the CPUC judge has proposed fining PG&E $390,000 (paid to the State) for spying on our groups. More on that later.
