Regulators are driving the water industry to adopt Whole Life Asset Management, as the best way to ensure overall efficiency, keep prices down and quality up. This has created a need, not for more data but for better information, so the recent 'Driving Innovations in the Water Industry Conference' hosted by Mitsubishi Electric looked at how some companies are embracing the new regime.

Mitsubishi Electric optimises Irish waste water treatment and purification plants in record time with MAPS |
The aim of the operators of a waste water treatment plant and four associated purification plants in the East of Ireland was to reduce ongoing operating costs through modernisation. In order to do that, the plant was brought right up-to-date by installing Mitsubishi Electric automation components. This involved taking particularly diverse performance requirements into account as well as increasing energy efficiency and optimising the transfer of data amongst other things. An essential part of the current integrated solution is the Mitsubishi Automation Process Suite - MAPS for short - which is used to accurately track and control all process stages and systems remotely.
