UK Machine Builder Conferences
Review

On the 31st October and 7th November Mitsubishi Electric Automation Systems hosted the UK Machine Builders conference aimed at strengthening the growth potential of UK machine builders through export.

The conference outlined why UK machine builders should be looking further afield than Europe for their exports and how to overcome the challenges of marketing, selling and supporting machines exported to Asia. It also showed how Mitsubishi Electric's integrated solutions can give machine builders a competitive advantage over their local and international competitors.

The events were attended by over 80 delegates, exhibitors and guest speakers from the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), China Britain Business Council (CBBC) and the Processing & Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA).

The topics covered were:-

  • International Export Opportunities, UKTI
  • Export opportunities in China, CBBC
  • PPMAs Red Dragon Initiative, PPMA
  • Asia's No1 Automation Supplier, Mitsubishi Electric
  • Embracing Robotics and Automation in Machine Control, PPMA
  • Solutions that meet your needs and give you a competitive edge, Mitsubishi Electric

Including;

*Reduced engineering time

*Achieve faster machine cycles

*Achieve greater flexibility and higher accuracy

The interest and feedback from the attendees and exhibitors has been very positive and encouraging.

Mitsubishi Electric HMIs backup/restore function enables fast PLC changeover
Modular PLC

When downtime can cost thousands of pounds every hour, a faulty PLC can be a major problem. Replacing the faulty CPU is only half the story, the other half is restoring the correct program enabling the system to continue its operation unhindered. This can mean the time and effort of bringing a PLC down onto the production floor, a frantic search for the original PLC program and the requirement to initiate a connection between the two devices. The GOT1000 series of HMIs from Mitsubishi Electric, however, includes the ability to back up the PLC program within the GOT terminal.

Featured Application
Vertical form, fill and seal

Vertical form fill & seal applications utilise servo motor technology to accurately pull and feed plastic film material from a roll stock to be heat formed, volume dosed with a product, and then sealed and cut to be carried away by an unloading conveyor. While the methods for filling and sealing vary from machine to machine, vertical form, fill & seal applications are essentially organised into two categories; Continuous motion bagging machines and intermittent motion bagging machines. Products entering the feeder can vary from a viscous fluid to a solid material and will often play a key role in how the machine is designed.

Example Applications

Applications suitable for vertical form, fill & seal operations include but are not limited to:

 Food/beverage bag filling

 Pouch packaging

 Industrial powder filling
