Safer Internet Day 2013 is tomorrow!
Connect with respect

Edition - 4 February 2013

SID 2013

The big day is nearly upon us so here are a few ideas and information about how you can feel a part of it tomorrow!

What is Safer Internet Day?

Safer Internet Day (SID) is celebrated in nearly 100 countries around the world in February of each year. In Europe, 30 countries mark the day with support from the European Commission's Safer Internet Programme. SID is coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people.

Safer Internet Day 2013 - the tenth anniversary of Safer Internet Day - will take place tomorrow on Tuesday 5 February, around the theme 'Online Rights and Responsibilities'  and under the slogan 'Connect with respect'.

What to look out for tomorrow
Young people's charter of
10 top online rights and responsibilities
We asked young people in the UK to choose their top ten online rights and responsibilities for Safer Internet Day. Having received over 24,000 responses nationwide, on 5th Feb 2013, we will deliver this statement of rights, with ten young people to a high profile politician in a high profile place. Look out for the charter on our website on the day www.saferinternet.org.uk as well on our social media channels - via Facebook www.facebook.com/saferinternetuk and Twitter @UK_SIC

Conversation starters for families

We have put together five conversation starters to help families discuss online behaviour together. We will publish these on Safer Internet Day at www.saferinternet.org.uk
