In recent years, the widespread perception of Big Data as exhibited in buzzwords, the popular press and other areas is has been: Big Data is not just big...It is HUGE! Big Data is fast! Big Data is variable! This opinion has avoided, to a certain extent, more important questions about Big Data.  

OK, so it's the end of the year and we've all had about as many 2012 retrospectives and 2013 predictions as we can eat. So let's take a different tack and see if some fanciful (but hopefully somewhat informed) conjecture can give us some pointers for future innovation roadmaps.

Our research program for next year will focus on "Big Data And The Real-Time Enterprise." To be honest, we're not sure what a real-time enterprise is in respect to current technology. Nevertheless we have some ideas, and we are writing a concept paper to flesh them out before we embark on the research in earnest.
