Advent Reflections
Diocese of Newark

Thank you for continuing to journey with us through the season of Advent.  You are now journeying together with  over 700 people. As we come together in reflection and prayer, let us remember the God is continually seeking us out in the midst of the messiness of life.  May we come to know the grace that is there.

                        Scripture

Save me, O God, by your Name,
   and vindicate me by your might.in your might, defend my cause.

Hear my prayer, O God;
   give ear to the words of my mouth.

For the arrogant have risen against me,
   and the ruthless have sought my life;
   those who have no regard for God.

Behold, God is my helper;
   it is God who sustains my life.

Render evil to those who spy on me;
   in your faithfulness, destroy them.

I will offer you a freewill sacrifice
   and praise your Name, O God, for it is good.

For you have rescued me from every trouble,

   and my eye has seen the ruin on my foes.

Psalm 54 (The Saint Helena's Psalter)

Reflection

I like this psalm because it is asking God for protection and it is also praising God for what he has done already. It is important to be grateful and thankful every day because in those feelings, we find that we are blessed. When one or two things aren't going our way, it is easy to forget the other thousand things that are going our way.
                                                                                                          With the year ending, I find it important to be grateful for all the things that went my way this year and I keep praying for the rest to get better. When I started practicing gratefulness more actively this year, I became somewhat more content with my whole existence and more aware of God's light in myself and others. I am very thankful for that. Take the time this season to practice gratefulness.

Prayer

You know what God? You are awesome.
I thank you for everything in my life.
You have truly blessed me and thank you for listening to me
and wrapping me in your love.
Thank you for always being present with me
and thank you for your daily blessings.
Please keep my heart blessed
 and may I always remember to be grateful. Amen.
