Lenten Reflections
Diocese of Newark

Thank you for joining us in prayer and reflection during  the season of Lent. We will travel through daily scripture, reflection and prayer.  We invite you to explore the other resources of the season found and the bottom of the page as  we begin the journey together.
Scripture

God looks down from heaven on humankind

to see if there are any who are wise,

who seek after God.

Psalm 53:2  (St. Helena Psalter)

Reflection

Carl Jung has often been quoted as having told a story about a rabbi who was asked, "Why is it that in the days of the bible, God appeared to the people, but today nobody ever sees God?" The rabbi answered, "Because today, nobody can bow low enough." Perhaps too, it is because we are not looking. God does appear - everywhere and in all things - but we are too busy to see, or we have confined our experience of God to church and someplace over our heads called heaven. But our Creator is always present, if we only open our eyes, our hearts, our ears to experience God. Take this time in Lent to be still to hear God, to look to see Christ in all people, to feel the movement of the Holy Spirit in your heart calling you into the world to love and serve all of God's creation.

Prayer

O God, who is ever present with unconditional love,

be with us now in our Lenten journey,

and guide us by your Holy Spirit, that we may come to hear you,

to see you, and to follow you. Amen.
