Thank you for joining us in prayer and reflection during this season of Lent. We will travel through daily scripture, reflection and prayer. Additional people have been joining us each day. Please feel free to forward these reflections to others. We invite you to explore the other resources of the season found at the bottom of the page as we continue the journey together. |
"I call upon you from the ends of the earth...set me upon the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy."
Psalm 61:2-3
"[God] alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold, so that I shall not be greatly shaken."
Psalm 62:7

The understanding of God as rock and fortress is often presented to me in the mountains near where I live. When I look at mountains and even smaller hills, their height and breadth and solid strength speak eternity. Mountains are steadfast, like God. Not long ago, I was walking by the sea and the sea reminded me of those mountains because both suggest eternity. Mountains are timeless in their stability, the sea in its constant movement. God spoke to Moses on the Mount of Horeb. Jesus calls out to us beside the sea and tells us he is "living water." And he declares to us that belief in him will become living water in the heart of the believer. This is such a lively image of God! And so, we have the solid ground of being and the constant flow of a lively faith. I want to stand on the rock that is higher than me and be a faithful fountain of living water for the world!

Prayer
Loving God, you come to all who seek you and
you reveal yourself in many and diverse ways.
Keep me mindful of your constant presence.
Help me to live grounded as on rock and
living as a fountain of water showering others
with the life you so freely and
lovingly give to all who will receive.
These things I ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
