Lenten Reflections
   Diocese of Newark

Thank you for joining us in prayer and reflection during  the season of Lent. We will travel through daily scripture, reflection and prayer.  We invite you to explore the other resources of the season found and the bottom of the page as  we begin the journey together.

Please check out this link (also located down below) if you would like a Lenten Journey calendar that can engage primarily children but also adults.  Follow each day, collecting the money as directed.  At the end of the journey, donate the money to a favorite charity or cause - 2014 Givng Calendar for Lent

                                      Scripture

Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on towards the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us then who are mature be of the same mind; and if you think differently about anything, this too God will reveal to you. Only let us hold fast to what we have attained.

Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the body of our humiliation so that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself.

Reflection

Perseverance doesn't just apply to running races; it's a way of life... a rule of life.  This passage calls me to name what I desire to own and to share that ownership with all.  For in the ownership, it belongs to me and therefore to everyone.  "Ownership" of our faith is what Paul has called us to.  He wanted us to embrace and live into that faith at all times.  For in that faith we are one with Christ Jesus who shares and helps us let go of unnecessary baggage and clutter that weighs us down.

Prayer

Gracious God, you bring us the gift of simplicity and clarity in our cluttered lives.  Continue to strengthen us

as we walk with your Son

to a place of peace and joy.  Amen.
