Lenten Reflections
Diocese of Newark

Thank you for joining us in prayer and reflection during  the season of Lent. We will travel through daily scripture, reflection and prayer.  We invite you to explore the other resources of the season found and the bottom of the page as we begin the journey together.

Scripture

He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted."

Luke 18:9-14

Reflection

"Welcome to Lent"  is a strange invitation for some and for others a gift of peace and reflection.  Any way you look upon this season, we are reminded it is in our relationship with God we find consistency and abundant grace.  Perhaps we may have a tension or fracture in our relationship with God.  This is a great time to deconstruct the trappings of our lives and schedules in order to share with God with intent and joy. The dialogue can be easy for there are no expectations than to be ourselves.  Let us humbly share who we are to God and ourselves deepening our faith.

Prayer

Gracious God; You hear my voice when I call;
you welcome my pleas and share your love.
 Open my heart to a deeper understanding of your creation
that I may welcome your love with all whom I meet.  Amen.
