Lenten Reflections
Christian Formation Commission

Greetings!

Thank you for joining us in prayer and reflection during this season of Lent. We will travel through daily scripture, reflection and prayer.  Additional people have been joining us each day. Please feel free to forward these reflections to others. We invite you to explore the other resources for the season found at the bottom of the page as we continue the journey together.

Scripture

Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival.  They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus."   Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.

Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.  Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.  Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

John 12:20-26

New International Version (NIV)

Reflection

Sprouting seeds for my salad and watching them grow has been fascinating.  I've always thought, what does it truly mean to "die to myself"?  Like so many of you, I still do the things I don't want to do and the things I want to do, I don't do.  I don't completely love my life, but I love living.  I read the Word, Pray and Fast, but I still don't serve with my whole heart.  I see the struggle in myself and others who want to commit but don't because of our daily lives.  But, do we give up, NO ... we don't.  That's why I'm so grateful for the New Covenant of Grace.  I cannot keep the Law, it's too perfect for me.  So I'm thankful for Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, for through Him I can serve Our Father with holiness and honor. I am becoming that new sprouted seed that must die daily to give new life.

Prayer

Father,

I pray that You will show us how to die daily to ourselves, so that we can produce the abundant seeds You created us to be.  In Jesus names I pray.  Amen.

Again, Thank you for your Grace.
