Lenten Reflections
Christian Formation Commission

Greetings!

Thank you for joining us in prayer and reflection during this season of Lent. We will travel through daily scripture, reflection and prayer.  Additional people have been joining us each day. Please feel free to forward these reflections to others. We invite you to explore the other resources for the season found at the bottom of the page as we continue the journey together.

Scripture

Dear friends, my greatest wish and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved. I know they love God, but they don't understand what makes people acceptable to him. So they refuse to trust God and they try to be acceptable by obeying the Law. But Christ gives the full meaning to the Law for those who become acceptable to God by faith.

Moses said that a person could become acceptable to God by obeying the Law. He did this when he wrote, "If you want to live, you must do all that the Law commands."

But the people whose faith make them acceptable to God will never as "Who will go up to heaven to bring Christ down?" Neither will they ask "Who will go down into the world of the dead to raise him to life?"

All who are acceptable because of their faith simply say, "The message is as near as your you mouth or you heart." And this is the same message we preach about faith. So you will be saved if you honestly say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe with all you heart that God raised him from death. God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this and tell it to others.

Romans 10:1-10

Reflection

We all need laws. We all need to obey laws. Have you ever tried to stretch the meaning of the law just a little bit? Perhaps you have driven you car a little too fast? Maybe you have borrowed your neighbor's snow shovel and forgotten to return it? You may have even at some point said something dishonorable about one of your parents. In the eyes of Moses you have broken the Law.

Thankfully we have Jesus Christ to rescue us from these indiscretions. While these infractions have overstepped the boundaries, they have not made you unacceptable to God. Like a loving father, he will always accept us back, even though we may have "broken" the Law.

Prayer

O Lord, help us to remember you law daily and follow it more closely as we develop more faith in you. Grant us the grace to remain acceptable in you sight even when we stray from you.

In Christ's name we pray. Amen.
