Lenten Reflections
Christian Formation Commission

Greetings!

Thank you for joining us in prayer and reflection during this season of Lent. We will travel through daily scripture, reflection and prayer.  Additional people have been joining us each day. Please feel free to forward these reflections to others. We invite you to explore the other resources for the season found at the bottom of the page as we continue the journey together.

Scripture

When many of his disciples heard it, they said, 'This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?' But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, 'Does this offend you? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But among you there are some who do not believe.' For Jesus knew from the first who were the ones that did not believe, and who was the one that would betray him.

   John 6:60-64

Reflection

Well, clearly the disciples are finding Jesus' teaching challenging and hard to believe and follow. We find Jesus pushing them to think beyond the literal words to find the spiritual truth. These challenges continue today.  Faith and following the ways of Jesus are not always easy but if we can trust, hold our breath and jump in...

"the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."  Philippians 4:7

Prayer

O God, who in your wisdom has so ordered our earthly life that we must walk by faith and not by sight; grant us such faith in you that, amidst all things that pass our understanding, we may believe in your care and be strengthened by the assurance that underneath are the everlasting arms, through Jesus Christ.
