Lenten Reflections
Christian Formation Commission

Greetings!

Thank you for joining us in prayer and reflection during this season of Lent. We will travel through daily scripture, reflection and prayer.  Additional people have been joining us each day. Please feel free to forward these reflections to others. We invite you to explore the other resources of the season found at the bottom of the page as we continue the journey together.

                                      Scripture

I am proud of the good news! It is God's powerful way of saving all people who have faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles. The good news tells how God accepts everyone who has faith, but only those who have faith.... God's eternal power and character cannot be seen. But from the beginning of creation, God has shown what these are like by all he has made.

Romans 1:16-17,20 (Contemporary English Version)

Reflection

Like many of my peers, I went through a period of non-belief while in college. Who needed God or Jesus, I could do quite well by myself. Now, as I survey my surroundings and think of all the different people I have encountered in my life, I understand more of what God is all about. Faith in God has allowed me to find people I love, survive a tremendous job crisis and recover from serious injuries. The good news is that by faith, God can bring us though the rough times of our lives.

Prayer

O God, whose fatherly care reaches

to the uttermost parts of the earth:

We humbly beseech you graciously to behold

and bless those whom we love,

now absent from you.

Defend them from all dangers of soul and body;

and grant that both they and we,

drawing nearer to you may

be bound together by your love in the communion

of your Holy Spirit, and in the fellowship of you saints

through Jesus Christ our Lord.   Amen.
