John was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, "Look, here is the Lamb of God!" The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means Teacher), "where are you staying?" He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. It was about four o'clock in the afternoon. One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated Anointed). He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas" (which is translated Peter).

"Come and see" (Jn 1:39) may be the most important thing Jesus ever said to me. In just three words he rocks my world every time. First, he invites me to join him. Jesus! Jesus wants me to walk with him! He takes the initiative in this and then he implies that I will "see" something that he will show me. Jesus! Jesus wants to show me-me!-something!
Now, imagine what these three little words could mean in your life. Imagine you are sad (this is me, of course!) because your daughter and her husband are having marital difficulties and you are searching your heart and wracking your brain for what to say and do and you find yourself sinking slowly into despair, and then you hear Jesus say, "Come and see." Jesus wants you to leave off your worrying and your endless mental gymnastics and accompany him. He wants to show you something you are not seeing from where you are.
Or imagine that you have lost your job and have spent three months applying for another, editing your resume, and searching want ads to no avail and you've just about lost hope when you hear Jesus call, "Come and see." Maybe you need a different perspective. Maybe you need some brand new direction. Maybe you need a whole new map!
Listen! Jesus invites you to go with him and see what you will see. I say, go!

Prayer
Dear Jesus, give me courage to drop what I am doing
and "come and see" what you want to show me. Amen.
