Advent Reflections
Christian Formation Commission
Greetings!

Thank you for continuing to journey with us through the season of Advent.  You are now journeying together with  members of over 60 different congregations in multiple dioceses.  As we come  together in reflection and prayer, we join our voices in praise as we await the joyful coming.

Scripture

And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;

John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.

But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,

Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

Luke 3:15-20 (King James Version)

Reflection

As we think of our worth and ability to serve without conditions it is also important to understand that it is only through the unconditional love of One most high that these talents can be shared.  It is also necessary to remember their presence is constant.

When motivated to perform an unselfish act we must also understand that it can come with consequences.  All acts of giving are not welcomed.  They are often considered threats to those whose motives are not pure.  When this happens we should remain focused on why we share and not the results of sharing.

Prayer

Thank you Heavenly Father for giving us your only Son. Believing in His unselfish acts of goodness allows us to give without conditions and receive with open hearts. Through His gifts we are able to see through the darkness.
