Greetings!
Thank you for continuing to journey with us through the season of Advent. You are now journeying together with members of over 60 different congregations in multiple dioceses and over 350 people in all. As we come together in reflection and prayer, we join our voices in praise as we await the joyful coming. Christian Formation Commission |
Scripture
Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him.
Psalm 37:7

The cards, as the old expression states, are stacked against Advent. The season is supposed to be a time of hopeful expectation: a time of waiting and preparation. But there are so many things to do and places to be. There are holiday parties, both professional and social. There are presents that we want to buy and presents that we are expected to buy. Decorations must be put up and Christmas cards must be written and mailed. Christmas cookies must be baked and Christmas dinner planned and prepared.
And the church is not immune to the business of the season. There are services to be planned and rehearsed. Bulletins prepared and sermons written. Choirs will have extra rehearsals and, of course, Christmas pageants need to be organized.
Does Advent stand a chance? Yes! You who are reading this meditation have made conscious decisions to attend to the meaning of Advent. You have made time to be still and are waiting patiently for the celebration of our Savior's birth. May each of us continue to attend to Advent so that we may be prepared to joyfully celebrate the birth of our Savior.

Prayer
Holy God, whose presence is often experienced
in the silence of the mountaintop or the desert,
grant us your grace to "be still"
so that we may patiently wait and watch
and keep this of season of Advent.
