Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Wednesday at 5:30 pm in the Parcell Room
SAIL is sponsoring a movie night in a galaxy far, far away this Wednesday! The show starts at 5:30 pm and there will be snacks as well as raffles for some awesome Star Wars themed prizes!

Plot Synopsis
Thirty years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, the galaxy faces a new threat from the evil Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order. When a defector named Finn (John Boyega) crash-lands on a desert planet, he meets Rey (Daisy Ridley), a tough scavenger whose droid contains a top-secret map. Together, the young duo joins forces with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) to make sure the Resistance receives the intelligence concerning the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the last of the Jedi Knights.

Maxwell Application Deadline is Today

Get Your Application in by 5:00 pm
Funded by J. Robert Maxwell '43, the J. Robert Maxwell '43 Student Internship Endowment (hereinafter, the Maxwell Internship Award) is intended to support students who can demonstrate financial need in completing off-campus internship experiences. The internship is not restricted to any geographic location, major, or type of institution (e.g. academic, for-profit, non-profit, government). Sophomores and Juniors with a 3.0+ cumulative GPA and a secured internship, or who are in the process of securing an internship, during the summer of 2016 are eligible to apply.

Housing Selection Registration Opens today
Registration for Housing Selection will open today at 5:00 pm on the Residence Life Spire page.  Student have until Friday, April 15 to sign up and select their group of four.  Students who do not have a group of four can contact Residence Life for assistance.

W&J Weekly Hiatus Over Spring Break

W&J Weekly will not run over Spring Break and will resume on March 28. Please note that any submissions received this week (excluding those for this week's Weekender email) will be slated for the March 28 edition.

Back Gym of Henry Memorial Closed

Due to construction of the new coaches' offices, the back gym area in Henry Memorial is now closed and will not be able to be used for recreational activities until the construction work is completed.

Donate Your Used Sneakers!
Support the PAC Nike Grind Project
Donate your used athletic sneakers to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Nike Grind Project, sponsored by W&J's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The Nike Grind project uses all parts of donated shoes by recycling and turning them into athletic surfaces such as sports courts, playgrounds, tennis courts, and tracks. Any brand of athletic sneaker are accepted and donations can be placed in the wire bin located at the entrance to the Swanson Wellness Center until March 18.

Bike Storage Available After Spring Break!
The weather is breaking, and it's starting to get warm out there! What better way to enjoy the weather after spring break than to ride around on your bike? Bring your bike to campus this spring, and we have the place for you to store it! The Sustainability Committee is offers indoor bike storage to students on campus. This is only available to a limited number of students, and it will be on first come first serve reservation basis. The bike storage unit will be in the lower level of Beau in a locked unit, and you will be able to lock your bike to wall-mounted bike racks in the room. Students utilizing the bike storage will receive a key to the room. If you have questions or would like to reserve to reserve a spot for your bicycle, please email sustainability@washjeff.edu.

Did you know that the W&J Sustainability Committee has rideshare opportunities? To reduce carbon emissions and costs, carpool home with a friend or other student living in the same city over break. The rideshare board is located behind the Mailroom. Sign up by filling out a notecard with your name, phone number, email address, and destination. Questions? Email sustainability@washjeff.edu.

Semester Abroad Showcases:
March 31 and April 28 at 5:00 pm in the Media Room, come hear all about study abroad from a W&J student's perspective. There will be FREE FOOD and we will do a drawing for PRIZES! After students share stories about their off-campus study experience you will have the chance to mingle and ask questions. This is also a great opportunity to learn about scholarships and grants for study abroad!
Off-Campus Study Application due March 1 for Fall 2016 or Full Year 2016-17:
The deadline to apply to study off-campus is quickly approaching! Do you want to hone your language skills in Cologne? Explore a different culture in South Korea? Study business in The Netherlands? Volunteer and study in Ecuador? Whatever your dream, semester-long off-campus study is an excellent way to achieve it! With programs in more than 20 countries (including the US), the Office of Study Abroad can help you begin your cross-cultural adventure.
Applications are due to the Office of Study Abroad by March 1, 2016. Email studyabroad@washjeff.edu with the country you hope to study in, your major(s)/minor(s), and a list of days and times you're available to meet (Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm). We will then contact you to schedule an advising appointment, which is required to apply.

International Tea Time

Come to the Hub Fireplace Lounge on Tuesday at 7:00 pm to immerse yourself in culture and fun!

PAC Undergraduate Asian Studies Conference

Deadline for Registration is Tuesday
Washington & Jefferson College will host the 4th Annual Pittsburgh Asia Consortium (PAC) Undergraduate Asian Studies Research Conference on campus on Saturday, April 9, 2016.

The PAC Undergraduate Research Conference is a one-day, interdisciplinary event for students from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. Students will give a 15-minute presentation on Asia-related research topics from any discipline, with faculty from the PAC overseeing each student panel.

Paper proposals from across the disciplines and across the broad geographic expanse of Asia, including the Middle East, are being accepted. First-time presenters are welcome!

If you are doing Asia-related research this semester or have done such research recently, we strongly encourage you to register for the conference and submit a paper proposal. You can do so online at the conference website.

Please work with a professor who will serve as your faculty sponsor for your paper.  The deadline for conference registration and paper proposal submission is Tuesday, March 15.

Remember to Apply for 2016-17 FAFSA

Returning Students - Be Sure to Apply by Tuesday
You can now file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2016-2017 academic year at www.fafsa.gov.  The priority date for returning students to file is this Tuesday (March 15).  PA residents MUST file by May 1, 2016 in order to be eligible for the PA state grant program.

Every Wednesday at 6:00 pm in the Alex Hall Common Room
Want to make to make some money and learn to be a journalist at the same time? The Red&Black Student Newspaper is on the lookout for talented writers interested in writing about a variety of topics ranging from campus, life, arts, sports, opinions. You can make up to $40 dollars a week writing for the paper. You earn a few more dollars taking photos as well. It is a great way to build your resume and make some money while doing it.

Articles are assigned every Wednesday 6:00 pm (Alex Common Room) and are due the following Sunday at 8:00 pm and must be longer than 350 words.

The Matthew Brown Fellowship

Join an exclusive group of W&J honor students in a small stipend-based community volunteer program. Fellows volunteer at community agencies to accumulate hours and attend one monthly meeting.  The fellowship is "graduation-recognized" and open to any rising sophomore, junior, or senior. "Free The Girls" Bra Drive Sponsored by KKG

Help Us Assist Victims of Sex Trafficking by Donating Bras
Let's face it, ladies: the back of your lingerie drawer is most likely filled with bras you don't wear anymore or that never fit right in the first place. Now you can use those old bras to make a difference! The sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma will be collecting gently used bras from March 27 through April 6. All collected bras will be donated to Free the Girls, an organization that aides victims of sex trafficking. You can bring your bras to our table sits at G&T's from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and the Commons from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, or place them in our collection bins located in each sorority house as well as in The Hub, The Rossin Info Desk, and in the Student Life Suite (Upper Level). Student Research Competition

Energy, the Environment and Sustainability  
The CEPM and the Sustainability Committee will hold its second annual Energy, the Environment and Sustainability Student Research Competition on May 10.  Cash prizes will be awarded for First, Second, and Third Place research projects.
Important deadlines:
  • March 28 -Register (send notice of intent to participate to Dr. Robert Dunn and Diana Stares)
  • May 2 - Submit research papers
  • May 10 - Present research poster at the Spring Poster Session (reception to follow immediately thereafter).
The EES Student Research Competition was created in the spring of 2015 to encourage and showcase the many W&J student research activities in these sectors.  Seven students participated, submitting research projects addressing biology, chemistry, EVS, economics, and political science. Cash prizes were awarded to the top three research projects as judged by a group of professionals drawn from industry, government, non-profit and consulting sectors.  All of the research papers were published on the CEPM website, at www.wjenergy.org.

PERC Education Job Fair

The PERC teacher job fair is a well-respected regional and national recruitment event. Representatives include employers of certified teachers from across the United States-including Pennsylvania. CEPM Student Policy Workshop

Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 4:00 pm in Burnett 015 & 016
This workshop provides students who have attended the Grid Academy sessions the opportunity to apply what they have learned in those sessions to a real-world scenario. Each student will play the part of an electric grid system stakeholder and advance his/her interests while also working with other stakeholders to find a resolution to the issue at hand. The exercise will highlight the complex nature of the electric grid system. Interested students should contact CEPM Director, Diana Stares at dstares@washjeff.edu.

Class of 2016: If you're wondering about all the steps you need to take before graduation, wonder no more! Senior Marketplace 2016 is Wednesday, April 6 from noon to 5:30 pm in the Ballroom.

This event will help you take care of the majority of your graduation business. You will be able to make sure all your graduation requirements are fulfilled and obtain cap & gown information. There will be detailed information on Senior Week, and tickets will be available for purchase. Everyone will get a gift just for attending and be eligible to win FABULOUS prizes! Sustainable Sushi Night is Back!

Register Today!
We're excited to tell you that Green Club's annual Sustainable Sushi Night will kick-start Earth Month taking place on Thursday, April 7th at 5:30 pm in Rossin Ballroom. During this event, sustainable sushi from the region will be served. We are showing a short documentary about sustainable fishing to raise awareness about declining fish populations. This event is free!

America Cancer Society Info Session

Tri County Patriots 5K Run, Walk, Roll Event

The Tri-County Patriots for Independent Living will be holding their annual 5K Run, Walk, Roll event on Saturday, April 23rd 2016 at Mingo Creek Park from 8 AM to 1 PM. Registration for the event begins at 7:30 am on the day of the race, or can be completed prior to the day of the race. The cost of registration is $20, and includes a t-shirt, course map, race bib, and other goodies.  If you are interested in volunteering or participating in this event, please contact Josh Makepeace (jmakepeace@washjeff.edu) to obtain a registration form.
