Today's Events
Film Screening: American Outrage

Today from 6:00 - 7:30 pm in Burnett 003
A Diversity Programs and Multicultural Affairs event, co-sponsored by the Department of Communication Arts.

American Outrage is about Carrie and Mary Dann, Western Shoshone sisters who have their ranch taken away by the US government in the interests of gold mining. This property seizure in the 21st century violated their nation's treaty arrangement with the US government. Among other things, the film illustrates how settler colonialism is a current and ongoing process of invasion, not an event that happened in the distant past.

Discussion after the hour-long film will be facilitated by Anthony Fleury, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication Arts.  In addition to general discussion about the film, Professor Fleury will point out how it relates to common stereotypes and misconceptions about Native Americans, many of which will soon be activated in popular discourse as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.

Networking Workshop

Today at 6:00 pm in the Media Room
Please join Career Services for an interactive workshop to gain skills in the art of networking.
