VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MARCH PRODUCE TO PEOPLE

The Greater Washington County Food Bank Produce to People food distribution is in need of volunteers on Tuesday, March 3 from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Produce to People is the Food Bank's large-scale produce distribution program. Volunteers are needed to assist with anything from passing out the produce, to acting as runners and support. Volunteers can sign up for the full experience or for shorter shifts. Transportation is provided, and a shuttle leaves campus on the hour each hour and returns to campus on the half hour. * Provides customer service
* Confidentiality is enforced
* Review and proof documents, records and forms for accuracy and completeness
* Provide information and assistance in person or on the telephone
* Maintain files for Business Office Staff
* Answers, directs, and transfers telephone inquiries
* Maintains and produces office forms
* Opens and distributes mail
* Makes deliveries to various offices on campus
* Assists with data entry
* Provide support to all areas in Business Office as needed
* Must be comfortable and competent at handling money
* Understanding of basic excel spreadsheets and word
* Understand and follow oral and written directions
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Conditions of Employment:

* Must be eligible for Federal Work Study
* Must sign a confidentiality agreement

NATIONAL EATING DISORDERS AWARENESS WEEK

 

Everyone Knows Somebody...Join the Fight Against Eating Disorders.

This week is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Thanks to our new Active Minds Chapter for volunteering to support NEDAW!

You can help in the effort to raise awareness while you support prevention efforts.

  • All week: the W&J Student Counseling Service will be sponsoring an awareness table near G&T's.  Stop by for fun daily awareness activities and loads of information!  Student Counseling Services Staff members and Active Minds volunteers will be available to talk with as well.
  • Show your support for survivors by picking up your free ribbon.
  • All Week:  Just walk in the Student Health and Counseling Services Center and the Student Health Service Staff will help you calculate your personal healthy BMI and check your blood pressure.
SEMESTER ABROAD SHOWCASE

Are you interested in the chance to explore an entirely new country and culture by studying abroad, and to learn more from a student's perspective? If so, the Semester Abroad Showcase is the perfect place for you!

 

The Office of Study Abroad is excited to host the first Semester Abroad Showcase on Tuesday February 24th at 6 pm in Burnett 103! This is an opportunity to hear all about study abroad from a W&J student's perspective. There will be free snacks, and we will do a drawing for a free passport! After students share stories about their off-campus study experience you will have the chance to mingle and ask questions.  This is also a great opportunity to learn about scholarships and grants for study abroad!

Join John Stehle (W&J 2004; Strategic Performance Manager at MITRE, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center ) and Samantha Mallone (W&J'2006; Manager of Education, Communication and Partnerships at FracTracker Alliance) as they discuss their careers in big data management/analysis, their interest in supporting W&J student career development,  and what they will be evaluating as they judge the Energy & Environment Research Paper Competition on May 5, 2015.

 

Remember:  March 9 is the deadline for declaring your intention of participating in this Competition, where three cash prizes will be awarded.

IM 5V5 BASKETBALL

Deadline to Sign-up is Friday at 12:00 pm

Sign-ups for Intramural 5v5 Basketball close Friday, February 27th at 12:00pm. Please submit entries via the button below.  Sign-ups are available for a Competitive A-League (for those with significant high school and/or college playing experience) and a Recreational B League (for those with minimal competitive playing experience). Please designate your intended league in your email.  Minimum rosters require 5 players (B League teams must have 1 female), and games will be played in the Henry Memorial Main Gym from March 2nd to April 2nd.

DPB'S TAKE BACK THE NIGHT EVENT

Take a Stand Against Domestic and Sexual Violence on Monday, March 2nd

The Diversity Programming Board will be holding a Take Back The Night Event on Monday, March 2nd for anyone who would like to join us in taking a stand against domestic and sexual violence. The event will begin with a short rally at 6:00 pm on the steps of Old Main before we march around campus, equipped with fun chants in support of the cause. Following the march, we will gather in Old Main's Chapel for a speak-out where participants can share poems, stories, or personal experiences dealing with domestic or sexual violence and recovery. There will be several tables of organizations and agencies present to spread their knowledge as well as light refreshments. READ ACROSS AMERICA VOLUNTEER SUPPORT

Register by February 27 at 4:00 pm
Calling all student organizations!  The Office of Community Engagement is requesting student organizations to help the America Reads event, "Read Across America," a celebration of reading, literacy, and Dr. Seuss's birthday that will take place on March 2!  Student organizations can sponsor a craft or activity that kids K-3 or 6-8 Grade can do as part of the event.  Each student organization would be asked to provide their own materials  for their craft/activity and then have 2-3 members lead the craft/activity for the duration of the program from 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm in the Ballroom.  If you would like to sign up your student organization, email volunteer@washjeff.edu. Please register your group by Friday, February 27 at 4:00 pm.
 
FALL 2015 HEALTH CARE COACHES

Register by February 26 

Another group of Health Care Coaches is to be trained at the end of the summer and do their internships in the Fall of 2015. The internship would be your fourth class in the Fall and grades would be given at the end of the Fall term. (More information on this program was sent to all student email accounts.)

 

If you are interested in being a part of this program please contact either Sheila DeYoung (sdeyoung@washjeff.edu) or Dr. Stan Myers (smyers@washjeff.edu).  There is an application to fill out and there will be a meeting of all interested students in the near future.  Since we need to have this process completed before registration for Fall classes, you must contact someone by Thursday, February 26.
