SPRING WORK STUDY POSITIONS AVAILABLE

 

America Reads

The Office of Community Engagement is looking for new mentors for the America Reads Program at the LeMoyne Community Center for the spring semester. 

Students can mentor any day or days Monday-Friday from approximately 2:45 pm - 6:00 pm with a minimum commitment of one day per week.  Mentors help kids K-8 (and often times older) with their homework and extra learning activities.  Students can be a tutor/mentor as a volunteer or as a paid FWS student.  If you are looking for an work-study job for the spring, this is a great opportunity! If you are interested in FWS or volunteering, you can fill out the application via the button below, or stop by G&T's during lunch this Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 2 & 3).  Finally, there will be an information session on February 4th at 7:00 pm in the Hub Fireplace Lounge. SPRING SEMESTER MEAL PLAN CHANGES


 
It is that time of year again that you can change your current meal plan. You have until Wednesday, February 4, 2015 to change your meal plan for the Spring 2015 semester, after February 4, 2015 at 5:00 pm meal plan changes will not be accepted!


We are once again doing it online, so you MUST go to the following link for any meal plan changes. If you do NOT want to change your meal plan, you do not need to do anything.  Again, please remember after Feb. 4, 2015 meal plans will not be able to be changed!

The Office of Admission seeks articulate, responsible, and energetic students to represent the College by interacting with prospective students and families, providing campus tours, interviewing prospective students, assisting with Admission events, and performing office tasks. Students do not have to be work study eligible to apply. However, this position may be used for work study hours.

Student Leadership Opportunity: J-Walker Supervisor for Fall 2015

Student supervisors coordinate the J-Walker volunteer program and assist with various Admission events.  Candidates for this position must be a current Student Ambassador or J-Walker. Supervisors enjoy using their creativity to plan training sessions for new members, develop new and fun ways to recruit and maintain membership, and work independently on multiple projects.  Candidates must have superior organizational, communications, and collaborative skills.

To learn more, mark your calendar for the Study Abroad Info Session which will take place Thursday, February 5 at 5:30 pm in the Media Room.

 

Before applying, students are required to meet with the Director of Study Abroad. Attention Student Organizations and others interested in hanging flyers on campus.  A new policy is in place, please see the abbreviated version below.  To view the entire policy, please visit the SAIL website or the SGA Sakai (listed under resources).

 

Posting Policy (abbreviated)

- Drop off 16 flyers to the Hub 7 days prior to requested hanging date for approval and hanging (your flyers will be hung for you; no flyers will be permitted to be hung on your own without prior approval).

- Flyers must include (at minimum):

- Name of sponsoring organization

Title, date and time of event

-If you would like flyers hung in the Residence Halls & Greek Houses, please take 50 copies of your approved flyer to Student Life.

S.A.A.C. WINTER FOOD DRIVE
 

W&J's S.A.A.C. (Student Athletic Advisory Committee) is hosting a Winter Food Drive to benefit the Greater Washington County Food Bank. From January 10 to February 21 at all home Basketball, Swimming/Diving, and Wrestling events you can donate food items included in a holiday meal. Every partial meal or full meal donation gains you free admission into basketball games. S.A.A.C. representatives will be stationed in the lobby of Henry Memorial to take your donated items.

The Orthodox Christian Fellowship is having their first February meeting on Monday February 2nd, at 6:00 in the Ski Lodge.  Various social aspects will be discussed, and getting the organization started with a service project or social event and end with a discussion with Father George and Father Dragan.  If there are any questions concerning times, scheduling, activities, information on the organization, etc., feel free to contact Jonathan Cadez via the button below.  Hope to see many people there!

CHRISTIE BLIZARD ARTIST RECEPTION AND TALK

Friday from 6:00 - 8:00  pm

On behalf of the Olin Art Gallery and the Art Department, it is with extreme pleasure that we invite the entire W&J community to attend the opening reception and artist talk for Iambus Glow an installation by Christie Blizard on Friday, February 6th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  The artist will begin her talk at approximately 6:45 p.m. in the Olin Art Gallery.

  

Christie Blizard is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Blizard received her MFA from Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA and her BFA from Herron School of Art and Design, Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis, IN. 

  

The exhibition continues through March 8th and is open daily from 12:00 noon-7:00 p.m.  For additional information concerning the exhibit please see the gallery's web page here.


 

W&J ACTIVE MINDS CHAPTER MEETING

Monday, February 9 at 7:30 pm

The W&J Active Minds Chapter will be having its first meeting Monday, February 9, at 7:30pm in room 203 of Burnett.  Active Minds is an organization that works to reduce mental health stigma on campus.  We recognize that mental health is just as important as physical health, and we strive to make sure our language, knowledge, and attitudes reflect that.  If you are interested in mental health or would like to learn more about it, please come to the meeting!  All are welcome!

The Greater Washington County Food Bank Produce to People food distribution is in need of volunteers on Tuesday, February 3 from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Produce to People is the Food Bank's large-scale produce distribution program. Volunteers are needed to assist with anything from passing out the produce, to acting as runners and support. Volunteers can sign up for the full experience or for shorter shifts. Transportation is provided.  All volunteers are entered to win a $50 gift card! GROUP PROJECTS WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Multiple Dates Available!
Are you a part of a student group, organization, fraternity, sorority or team and you would like your group to do a service project? Consider volunteering with Habitat for Humanity!  Each Saturday, large volunteer groups are welcome to assist Habitat for Humanity with the housing build projects in Washington. Volunteers can do anything from painting, to drywall, to framing and more!  Group builds run from about 8:00AM - 2:00/3:00PM with a provided lunch.  It is possible to arrange transportation for your group as well.  Open dates are January 31, February 14 & 21, March 14,  April 4, May 9, 16 & 23.
