After their capture by the Gestapo, seven core members of the group were executed in February 1943 (amongst them the siblings Sophie and Hans Scholl and philosophy professor Kurt Huber) and many more imprisoned. SHORT DARK WINTER DAYS GOT YOU DOWN?
Get Some Light!

Student Health & Counseling Services is once again providing use of full spectrum lights to help you through the winter blues.

For our latitude and climate, about 18% of adults can expect to see a seasonal dip in mood and functioning due to the short gloomy days.  To help, we have two full spectrum high intensity lights for your use.

We will have the lights out and available every class day until the spring time, when the days grow longer and brighter again.  They are being placed in the lower level of Rossin Campus Center, behind the mail room. They will be out in the mornings, approximately 7:30 - 12:30ish, because that is the most effective time of day for the use of the lights.

There will also be a 'winter wellness tip of the week' available to students, faculty or staff members who stop by.

There is information available at the table about how to use the lights properly and about the winter blues.

A very good book if you would like to learn more is "Winter Blues, Everything You Need to Know to Beat Seasonal Affective Disorder" by Normal E. Rosenthal, MD.

So stop by, read your mail, eat a breakfast sandwich, or catch up on some reading for class while you also catch some rays!

WINTER TALES XIII

There are flurries in the air so it's time again to write a 10-minute play.  Winter Tales, W&J's annual 10-minute new play festival, is accepting submissions from the W&J Community.  All plays will be read and considered-students' plays will be given top priority.

Plays must be typed in proper manuscript form.  Proper M.S. format can be found online to explain the layout.

Submit your 10-minute play-no more than nine (9) pages-in proper M.S. form to sfrank@washjeff.edu with Winter Tales XIII in the subject line.

If you need a prompt to get you going here it is:  Write a 9-page play about a girl who has come to claim the body of a family member to take it back home.  The play should take place at night, in the dead of winter.  Or write about something you're passion about.
