PEACE CORPS INFORMATION SESSION
Tuesday from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm


An information session will be hosted in Yost Auditorium (Burnett Ctr.) for those interested in the Peace Corps. Returned Peace Corps volunteers will be answering questions and speaking about their experiences.
 

GREEN CLUB MEETING

Join the Green Club in Adams Hall on Tuesday at 7:00 pm for recycled crafts and smoothie and juice refreshments! All are welcome!
 

COLLEGIATE JOBS & INTERNSHIP FAIR
This Wednesday 


Want an opportunity to meet with over 100 employers? As members of the WestPACS Consortium, W&J students and alumni can attend the Fair, held at the Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville, PA. There is no pre-registration fee, but a $10.00 walk-in fee. Register at www.westpacs.org. Van services is available with a reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. W&J Zumba Fitness Club will meet every Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the Alley (Hub LL). There will not be a meeting on October 29.
 

SOCIAL JUSTICE EXPERIMENT
Thursday at 5:00 pm

 
The Office of Diversity Programs & Multicultural Affairs invites you to come test your skills and knowledge with a Social Justice Experiment on Thursday at 5:00 pm in the Media Room. See if you can overcome everyday obstacles and build the ideal community. Participants will be challenged to think outside of the box and stretch their comfort zones.

MARSHALL LOT CLOSURE
Starting Thursday at 5:00 pm

 

The Marshall lot (the small parking lot next to the basketball court and Marshall Hall) will be closed from the close of business Thursday, October 16th through the evening of October 17th.  This closure is occurring to provide space for a philanthropy event sponsored by Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.  The Offices of Fraternity & Sorority Life and Campus & Public Safety request that all vehicles be moved from the lot prior to the end of the work day on Thursday the 16th. Any cars remaining in the lot after 5pm on Thursday, October 16th will be ticketed.  All other lots will remain open. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

 

PI BETA PHI'S ARROWBANDS
Thursday at 7:00 pm

 
 

Pi Beta Phi will be hosting their annual Arrowbands event this Thursday at 7:00 pm in Olin Theatre. $2 admission and all proceeds benefit the Pi Beta Phi Foundation.

 

FIJI'S CAR SMASH
Friday from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

 

FIJI will be having a Car Smash in the Marshall parking lot next to the basketball court on Friday from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. It is $1.00 per swing or $2.00 per 3 swings. All proceeds will go to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

 

FRIGHT ON THE FRONTIER
Presented by the Washington County Historical Society

 

On Friday and Saturday from 6:00-10:00pm the Washington County Historcal Society is having their 2nd annual Fright on the Frontier at the Frontier History Center in Washington Park. Come out and experience a frightening ghost tour! It costs $5 per person and the address is 283 Dunn Avenue, Washington PA 15301.

 

WHEELING SYMPHONY CONCERT SERIES
First Show this Saturday, Free with W&J ID


 

The College Concert Series includes the following four Wheeling Symphony Orchestra concerts: Saturday, Oct. 18 - Jeans 'n' Classics featuring Vocalist Michael Shotton and The Music of Queen; Friday, Nov. 7 - Spanish and American music with Violinist Michael Ludwig and Roberto Sierra, composer; Saturday, Feb. 14 - Wheeling native Tim O'Brien performs his original bluegrass and country classics; Friday, March 20 - "Famous Fifths" includes well-known fifth symphonies by classical greats Beethoven and Sibelius. 

All concerts begin at 8:00 pm in the Capitol Theatre in downtown Wheeling, with a pre-concert talk prior to Masterworks performances at 7:00 pm. Student tickets will be available at the Capitol Theatre box office beginning at 6:30 pm before each concert.
 

MEN'S WATER POLO CHAMPIONSHIP
at W&J This Weekend


 

The 2014 Men's Division III Water Polo Championship will be held this Saturday-Sunday, October 18-19, at W&J! W&J will compete against MIT at 4:40 pm on Saturday. Please come out and show your support! For a full schedule of the tournament please go here.

SORORITY RECRUITMENT REGISTRATION
Now Open for Spring 2015 Recruitment 


 

Spring 2015 Sorority Recruitment will take place February 4th-8th at W&J.

You can register here!


 

Students are eligible to join a sorority after completing one semester at W&J and earning a GPA that meets the requirement of the chapter they wish to join (GPA requirements vary for each chapter, but no student may join a sorority if her cumulative GPA is below a 2.50).


 

GPA Requirement for each sorority:

Delta Gamma: Must have a 2.50 or higher cumulative GPA to join

Kappa Alpha Theta: Must have a 2.90 or higher cumulative GPA to join

Kappa Kappa Gamma: Must have a 2.70 or higher cumulative GPA to join

Pi Beta Phi: Must have a 2.50 or higher cumulative GPA to join


 

All interested women must sign up for recruitment and pay a $20 fee which includes a long sleeved t-shirt and registration fee.


 

INTRAMURAL TEAM HANDBALL
Registration Deadline is October 23

 

Register your team today for Intramural Handball! It is a coed league, 4v4, and games consist of two 10 ten minute halves. This league consists of a full regular season and playoffs. Minimum rosters require 5 players and 2 must be female. If interested, your team captain must email the full roster to imsports@washjeff.edu by October 23.

 

MAGELLAN PROJECT PART 1 APPLICATION

The Magellan Committee is pleased to announce that Part 1 Magellan applications are available.

 

The Part 1 application is now open and will close October 24, 2014 at 5:00 pm. If you plan to complete a general Magellan please complete the General Magellan Part 1 Application.

 

If you plan to complete an internship during your Magellan, please complete the Franklin Magellan Part 1 Application.

 

Part 2 applications will be available after the Part 1 deadline has passed and will be due mid-February 2015. For more information, please visit http://www.washjeff.edu/the-magellan-project.

TECH CENTER LOBBY CLOSURE
For Student Homecoming Dance Friday, October 24
 

The Tech Center lobby will be closed due to the Student Homecoming Dance on Friday, October 24 from 9:30 pm - midnight.  Preparations for the dance (decorating, moving furniture, etc.) will occur throughout the day leading up to the dance. Students are encouraged to use other spaces on campus for studying and homework during this time.

LE TOUR DE DUBJAY
Registration Deadline is October 31

 

Le Tour de DubJay is a special, individual event designed to promote healthy and active lifestyles on campus through cycling.  This competition runs from November 3-21 and entries are due by October 31 (registrations are accepted throughout the duration of this particular event).  For more infomration on this event please go here.

Ditch the traditional networking reception! Practice your networking skills with successful alumni working in your field of study in a fun, high-energy atmosphere.


 

Students will have three minutes to network with each alumnus/a in attendance. This high-energy, low-pressure atmosphere gives students the valuable opportunity to interact with many different types of professionals and learn just what it takes to make a meaningful first impression. A reception will immediately follow the speed networking portion. Please bring your photo identification for the reception.

McCune Alumni house, the Alumni Student Networking Dinners are designed to provide students a relaxed, informal way to meet alumni and learn about their career experiences and time at W&J. SEASONAL FLU VACCINE NOW AVAILABLE

The seasonal flu vaccine is now available at Health Service during regular business hours of Monday through Friday between 9:00 am - 11:45 am and 1:00 pm - 4:45 pm. The cost for the micro-needle shot is $20 cash or check and is available to students, faculty and staff.  Please call Student Health Service with any questions or concerns at 724-223-6047 or 724-223-6107.  Student Health Service is located at the corner of Beau & College Streets in the ground floor of New Res Hall.

SKI LODGE FURNITURE REMINDER
Please Do Not Drag Furniture Across Floor
 
In order to preserve the furniture in the Ski Lodge, please do not drag the furniture across the floor when relocating to a new area. If you decide to move a table or heavier item, please ask for assistance and lift it off of the floor to move it. Dragging the furniture causes damage to the legs and, in some cases, this damage cannot be repaired. In addition, please return the furniture to its prior location when finished.
