NATIONAL DEPRESSION SCREENING DAY

Screenings Offered Today

 

Each year in early October we join with communities across the nation in recognition of National Depression Screening Day. A free screening is being sponsored today by Student Counseling Services.

You may take an anonymous online screening through our ULifeline "Self E-valuator" screening program, available hereYou can also stop by our Table near George and Tom's to take a screening or gather helpful information for yourself or a friend.

PI GAMMA MU ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS

Deadline for Transcripts is Today

 

I am very pleased to announce that we are accepting new membership applications for Pi Gamma Mu this semester. W&J is the Pennsylvania Alpha Omicron Chapter. PGM has been the leading honor society that encourages excellence in the social sciences since 1924. The society not only provides recognition for scholastic achievements, but also offers enrichment opportunities through service projects, publications, scholarships and lectureship grants. 

For new membership, we are accepting applications from faculty, seniors, and juniors. For faculty who would like to join please contact Dr. Yongsheng Wang or Dr. James Benze directly. According to PGM membership requirement, students have to be in the upper 35% of the class and need 20 semester hours in social science courses. GPA cutoff point is 3.37 or higher for juniors and 3.44 or higher for seniors. PGM constitution defines the social sciences to include the disciplines of history, political science, sociology, anthropology, economics, international relations, criminal justice, social work, psychology, social philosophy, history of education, and human geography. If you think you fulfilled the requirements and would like to join, please send your transcript and highlight all the social science courses you took and your GPA before October 9th to Dr. Yongsheng Wang through campus mail.

HOMECOMING COURT PETITIONS AVAILABLE

Hello SENIORS! You have begun the last Fall semester of your undergraduate career, congratulations! As you anticipate the excitement that comes with Senior year, let's not forget about being on the Homecoming Court. If you are interested in running, petitions are available online and outside the SGA office and should be returned to the HUB by Friday, October 10 no later than 5:00 pm. PI BETA PHI FUNDRAISER

Friday Starting at 5:00 pm at Hofbrau in Canonsburg


The sisters of Pi Beta Phi will be hosting a fundraiser at Hofbrau in Canonsburg (416 Highland Avenue) on Friday from 5:00 pm until Midnight. Please invite your friends and family for a night of great food and entertainment while supporting childhood literacy. All tips will benefit the Pi Beta Phi foundation.
 

 

W&J JAZZ ENSEMBLE CONCERT

Friday at 7:30 pm


 

The W&J community is cordially invited to a free concert of modern pop music performed by the W&J Jazz Ensemble this Friday, October 10 at 7:30 pm. The Jazz ensemble is focusing on modern hits like Pharrell Williams' "Happy" and Coldplay's "Clocks", and a brand new arrangement of John Mayer's "Daughters." The ensemble will also perform music by the great Stevie Wonder.  Come check out this exciting concert of modern Pop/R&B music. We hope you can make it.

 

SAB'S ANNUAL FALL FEST!

Saturday at 6:00 pm


 
Come to the lawn behind the Hub on Saturday at 6:00 pm to enjoy various fall themed activities as part of SAB's annual Fall Fest! There will be pumpkin carving, a pumpkin painting contest and plenty of snacks and games! The event runs until midnight.

 

STEELERS GAME AT G&T'S

Sunday at 1:00 pm


 
Come see the Steelers play the Browns at G&Ts on the 70 inch screen! There is even a half time prize drawing! G&T's also has specials every Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00 pm during the football season; a black and gold burger and an appetizer basket. 

FLUTE & PICCOLO MUSIC RECITAL

Sunday at 3:00 pm


Come enjoy an hour of beautiful music this Sunday.  W&J Professor of Music Susan Medley and guest artist Julie Sarver will present a recital of music for flute and piccolo on Sunday, October 12 at 3:00 pm in the Olin Fine Arts Center. The program will include works by Bach, Saint-SaŽns, Dutilleux, and more.  Julie Sarver has been a flutist and piccolo player in the Canton Symphony Orchestra since 1987.  She is on the faculty of Malone University and Kent State University Stark Campus, both located in Canton, Ohio.  The recital is free and all are welcome.
 

YOGA FUNDRAISER FOR SAMOA CAMP GLOW

Sunday from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm


The Peace Corps will sponsor a Yoga fundraiser for Camp GLOW in Samoa. The camp teaches girls topics such as gender equality and employment opportunities so that they can have a better life. They are asking for a $5 donation and it will be held in the media room this Sunday from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. 
 

SKI LODGE FURNITURE REMINDER

Please Do Not Drag Furniture Across Floor

 

In order to preserve the furniture in the Ski Lodge, please do not drag the furniture across the floor when relocating to a new area. If you decide to move a table or heavier item, please ask for assistance and lift it off of the floor to move it. Dragging the furniture causes damage to the legs and, in some cases, this damage cannot be repaired. In addition, please return the furniture to its prior location when finished.
