Since 1997, the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation has provided more than $12 million for conservation and outdoor recreation.

Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation Board Appoints Four New Members

With three members' terms expiring at the end of the year and one resignation, the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation (MCHF) Board nominated and voted to approve four new  members. All have a love for the outdoors and a passion and commitment to conservation and the Foundation's mission to advance the conservation and appreciation of forest, fish and wildlife resources by applying financial resources. New board members are: Ken Babcock, Jamestown;  Don Johnson, Festus; Bruce Sassmann, Bland; and J. Miles Sweeney, Springfield. MCHF welcomes these new Board members and wishes to thank the outgoing members for their past years of service. Departing members include David Reynolds and Jan Horton, Springfield; Steve Bradford, Cape Girardeau; and Cynthia Metcalfe, St. Louis.

MCHF Board members serve at least a three year term, with the chance to serve an additional three years if they so choose. Board members attend meetings on their own time and money, make many generous donations to MCHF for various projects and fundraising activities and work with major donors to solicit donations on behalf of conservation projects and activities around the state, helping to provide funding to MDC to support its mission. MCHF is a very strong foundation that has provided over $12 million dollars in funding for various projects across Missouri since its beginning in 1997.  We cannot thank all of our Board members enough, past and present, for their service and commitment to our mission and that of the Missouri Department of Conservation.

The MCHF annual donor appeal is underway and the Foundation is beginning to receive donations from letters sent to individuals and organizations who have so generously donated in the past. The Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation is not a membership organization. The Foundation depends on generous private donors to help conservation and community partners provide worthwhile programs, projects, activities and events. Donors can contribute to the programs that are most meaningful to them. For instance, we received a $1,000 donation to be directed to Missouri's hellbender project and stream maintenance where hellbenders exist. We have also received several donations to be used where most needed. We hope you will consider making a tax-deductible gift to use in the many ways possible!  Great conservation happens one passionate person at a time - please help us preserve the future! We are very efficient with your investment with over 90% going directly to projects.

In addition, please visit our website www.mochf.org for more information and project descriptions. You can make a donation by sending a check made payable to MCHF, PO Box 366, Jefferson City, MO 65102. If you would like to make a credit card donation, you may also do that by following this link. Please indicate annual fund appeal when making the donation.

MCHF is actively pursuing a list of new and exciting projects for the upcoming year. These include Missouri Girls Discover Nature Camps, MDC Volunteer Support Fund and assisting with the publication of a waterfowl hunting and wetlands conservation book (see article below for more on this project). Additional information is also available on our website concerning these projects.

MCHF Assisting with Publishing Wetlands and Waterfowl Book

Wildlife conservation in Missouri is unique. Separating Missouri from most other states is the citizen mandate that forest, fish and wildlife resources will be sustained for future generations. Waterfowl and wetland habitats have benefited from special partnerships among government agencies, landowners, waterfowl hunters and wetlands conservationists, positioning Missouri as one of the most important states in North America for migrating and wintering waterfowl and other wetland birds. Conservationists across the continent refer to these conservation partnerships as the "Missouri Model." This new book, entitled Waterfowl Hunting and Wetlands Conservation in Missouri - A Model of Collaboration, will tell the story and history of this waterfowl and wetland habitat conservation success and honor those who made it possible. Leadership from dedicated citizen conservationists and the partnership of private/public waterfowl and wetland conservation have been the foundation of the Missouri model. It is the intent of the book committee to secure grants from sponsors and supporters sufficient to cover all production costs in advance of publication, which amount to more than $120,000. All subsequent proceeds from book sales will be dedicated to wetland and waterfowl conservation that benefits Missouri. Major sponsors that have stepped forward with $110,000 in cash pledges or contributions to date include Bass Pro Shops, Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the Conservation Federation of Missouri (CFM). Author contributions are donated. Persons interested in donating to this book project and thus supporting wetland management in Missouri can donate online at mochf.org or send a check payable to the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation, referencing the book. Your donation will be matched, doubling your contribution, and is tax deductible. Please consider supporting this unique historical review of wetland and waterfowl management in Missouri.

The Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization founded in 1997 to help meet financial needs placed on natural resource conservation and conservation-related outdoor recreation.

MCHF is separate from the Missouri Department of Conservation but supports that agency's mission of protecting the state's forest, fish and wildlife resources for all Missourians. MCHF is governed by a volunteer board comprised of conservation, community and business leaders. By working with Missouri Department of Conservation staff, who partner with conservation groups statewide, MCHF funds projects that immediately address conservation and outdoor recreation needs. Since it was created in 1997, MCHF has provided more than $12 million for conservation projects. MCHF receives funding from several sources, including Conservation Heritage License Plate donations; private donations from individuals, businesses and organizations; and payments to the Stream Stewardship Trust Fund.

MCHF offers volunteer opportunities and a variety of conservation giving opportunities. If you would like to speak to a MCHF staff person for more information, call 1-800-227-1488.
