As I read through the article and saw the remarkable people highlighted, my jaw dropped when I saw that I was listed as one of the 5 people. They cite Gideon's story as the reason they named me for this honor. However, what they didn't mention is the global village that enables me and Bill Foundation to do what we do. You are the heart and soul of each rescue. You give me the courage and ability to do what I do.
The rescue movement is about saving lives. Whether thru getting a dog off the street, out of the shelter, or thru education and supplying services to those who can't afford it. It's a fight worth fighting. It's a war worth winning. And along my journey it has been a weight worth carrying.
Many of you know my story. That I was very ill and that my illness led me to rescue, to Bill Foundation, and then to all of you in my village. For all the hardships, the heartbreak, the triumphs and the disappointments, I would not change a thing. It is the greatest honor of my life to work for these dogs. To grant wishes to worthy souls. To be this village's voice and to represent your hearts in our efforts.
Today, tears are rolling down my face... Because of the worldwide support we are receiving. Even the UK based DAILYMAIL featured Gideon on their front page. And Pit Bulls are OUTLAWED there.
My greatest dreams are being realized. The work I am blessed with doing is raising awareness and effecting change around the world.
Carol Burnett used to pull on her ear at the end of every show she did. It was a message to her grandmother, who raised her. One of love and acknowledgement. I just want to let everyone out there know that wherever our roads take us, wherever I post from and with whatever rescue effort I am aiding, every single time you see a post that ends with "xo Annie" - it is me pulling on my ear - as a nod to you.
Bill Foundation could not have gotten where we are today without each and every one of you. I love you all, and thank you for your enduring support, and the splendid size of your hearts.
Today is a beautiful day, and I thank you for it.
