Sue and Dick Barr
'Who's There?'

Thanks to the generosity of Sue and Dick, here's a wonderful opportunity to have an enjoyable afternoon plus help support the Library and the Food Pantry!

Sue and Dick Barr will be graciously opening their home and gardens June 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm for a fundraising event titled "Hooked Rugs in the Gardens".  All proceeds will be donated to the Gilmanton Year-Round Library and the Gilmanton Food Pantry!

"We will display about 150 of our rugs that we've hooked over the years," said Dick.
"The rugs will be shown throughout our home and around the gardens".

Sue and Dick spend winters and evenings working on their rugs.  They draw their own patterns and hook using strips of wool on a linen backing.  Sue and Dick use their unique hobby as rug hookers to give back to the community.  Two years ago the couple were featured "Artists in the Library" displaying a collection of their rugs and donating one of them in a very successful silent auction as a Library fundraiser.

The tour begins in the first floor of their home, a first floor decorated with over 75 gorgeous hooked rugs.  Guests will then exit into the Barr's incredible gardens where one of the first areas encountered is a collection of ferns.  A koi pond and waterfall embellished by a red weeping Japanese maple, a child's garden, a collection of cacti, specimen trees and shrubs, a vast variety of daylilies, several water features including an area Sue calls 'The Gentle Readers Fountain' and vegetable and herb gardens are just some of the highlights of these glorious gardens.

Waterfall and koi pond designed & built by the Barrs.

The tour will include local musicians, The Pancake Hill Duo plus wine and cheese and a silent auction featuring a unique Barr rug specially crafted for this event!

Tickets are $25 or 2 for $40.  This will be a sell out event.  It's recommended that you reserve your tickets by contacting Sue at 267-1905, susan.barr75@gmail.com.  Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the event.  (see 'Current Events' for further details)

Thank you Sue and Dick Barr for all you do for the Library!
