April 2013

Greetings!

Eating Right for Martial Arts

Eating Right For Martial Arts

When you come to your martial arts class, you feel alive, awake and re-energized. To maximize your experience on the mat, you want to start the class properly fueled. Then, following the class, you want to extend the feeling of well being by knowing what to eat and when to eat. Read on for eating right for martial arts.

Food can be a social outlet, an emotional trigger or simply fuel. Your first step to eating right for martial arts is to know WHY you are eating. Are you feeling down? Be mindful of that emotional trigger. Are you eating out of boredom? Recognize that habit. This mindful eating perfectly matches the awareness of a martial artist.

Your second step is to keep your tank full. Make a pact with yourself to eat 5 small meals a day. Most people can relate to this type of eating as three meals and two snacks. If you are the type of person that is skipping breakfast, you are slowing your metabolism and causing our body to go into starvation mode. Odds are, you just aren't as in shape as you could be. Make a promise to change that now. read more

Why Should I Train at NPMAC?

We love the feedback we have gotten thus far from our students as to why they started training and why they continue the peaceful warrior journey.

Check out these reasons( important life lessons in growth)- resonate with any of you???

*Self-defense is just the beginning... it's a winning way of life

*I now have weekly internal reflections translated from true magical scrolls.

*It's real life expereince on how to deal with people- not fighting- well beyond the scope of self-defense or self-offense.

*I have a sense of connection.

*I enjoy being around inspiring role models.

*Friendly, connected, engaged class mates that keep me safe yet hold me accountable.

*Ninja is just really cool.

There is a reason ninja training has been around since the 1400's, and our mind science training well before that.

What's your reason? What knowledge do you want access to?

And no, you are not too old...

To-Shin, Ninja.

Week 4 Training Tools Week

As ninja, you should always be prepared. So please look at your curriculum syllabus (yes, we have one- not all martial arts do, thank you very much...and over 40 years of curriculum if you are wondering. Don't want to brag or anything :)

Week four (week following stripe testing) is your training tools week.So please bring your knife, hanbo, kusari fundo, and sword to class each day that week.

Don't have your own yet? Don't worry, fellow ninja. Training tools are available at the front desk- pick your style that fits you... have it personalized by our Ninja Jeremy Park....pick your favorite color kusari...flip knife or wooden knife... you get the idea.

You aren't going to outgrow your tools- you will have them for all your training days; so pick the ones that feel right in your hand, and make them a part of your natural movement.

Now that's being a ninja. Taijutsu in action- using what is needed at hand to win and get home- healthy and happy.
