For Junior Daughters
|
Most merciful Father, you have entrusted us with the well-being, guidance and leadership of these your Junior Daughters. Grant us, we pray you, the vision to guide them by our example in the way you will have them go. Help their lives be a reflection of your Holy Spirit, give them the strength to resist temptation, and to meet with grace and dignity the challenges they will face in their daily lives. Equip them with the necessary tools to go out into the world and spread your love. Let your church be for them a safe harbor, a place of refuge and renewal. Bless them with the gift of a willing and compassionate heart for all your people. We ask this all For His Sake and in the blessed name of our King and Savior Jesus Christ. AMEN.

Junior Directress Retreat
|
Calling all Junior Directresses at all levels of our Order. Start saving your coins and talking to your chapter or assembly about helping with your costs so that you can come to our retreat. The dates are Thursday, August 7, through Sunday, August 10, 2014. The place is beautiful and remote Camp Allen, Texas. The registration will be $100 so the principal cost will be travel.
I have a dream of a National Junior Daughters Quilt to have up for display at Triennial. I see it as a visual image of how Junior Daughters are growing throughout the world and as a symbol of how diverse we are and yet we can come together in unity through our vows of prayer, service and evangelism. I will very soon be sending out instructions for Junior chapters to make a quilt square and where to send that square once it is made. We will be looking for quilters to come to the Retreat and help us begin the process of assembling those squares into a quilt. As in all things, many hands can make light work of this. We also need to pull together our plan for Triennial. As you read in the Royal Cross, the Homestead Resort and Zermatt are located in a very different atmosphere than previous triennials which gives us an opportunity to look to nature for inspiration. Look up the Homestead Resort on the web and then look at what is in the area. Is there any way we can take advantage of this environment? These are things we need to be thinking about now so that we can develop a plan at the Retreat. I look forward to seeing old friends and making new friends of you I have not yet met. See you in Texas.

Two Percent Growth Challenge
| |
I issued a challenge for Junior Daughters to grow by 2% over this triennium. Some places are working hard to see that happen. In addition to the already large number of Juniors in Marshall, Texas, they have done a talk show interview for a regional television station about Junior Daughters and are hearing from large numbers of girls not just immediately in Marshall but in surrounding areas and there have been several new chapters starting up in various parts of Texas. Our international Daughters have also taken up the challenge with a Junior Chapter in India and now a new chapter in Uganda with 25 Juniors right from the beginning. These girls are being admitted at the same time as 62 Senior daughters. Keep up the good work everyone!!!

Implementation of Reinstatement Bylaw
| |
The new Reinstatement Bylaw, approved at Triennial 2012, went into effect on September 1st. To allow for mailing time after the deadline, we will start implementing follow-up procedures with any mail received on or after Monday, September 16th.
The Reinstatement Bylaw states that "A Daughter who is not in good standing may be reinstated at a Service of Rededication following a period of renewal and study with the approval of her clergy and upon payment of dues for the current year and a nominal reinstatement fee, set by the National Council. A Daughter-at-Large may be reinstated in a similar manner with the approval of her diocesan assembly chaplain." (For further details please see the Spring 2013 Royal Cross article on the subject or call the National Office.) Daughters who were at risk of requiring reinstatement were identified on the Chapter Lists mailed this Spring with the Dues Packets. It was noted on the Chapter List that these Daughters must pay their dues by September 1, 2013, or they will be removed from the National Office records. We are now past the deadline with a two-week grace period. When we receive dues from Daughters who are more than two years in arrears, we will notify the Daughter of the requirement to complete the reinstatement process, reinstatement form and submit the $5 re- instatement fee. If you have any questions about your status as a Daughter, please contact your Chapter, Diocesan, or Provincial President.

Strengthening our Trademark License Agreements
|
In our continual effort to safeguard our trademarked emblems, several improvements have been made to the Trademark License Agreements (TLA). But first, Daughters are reminded that in order for the TLA to be considered legal, only the Province President or National First Vice President can sign the TLA as the Licensor. The revised Special Purpose Trademark License Agreement now requires that the vendor (the person or company representative actually making the item) sign the License Agreement. This is very important because it lets that company or person know that our emblem is legally protected. I realize this may generate some questions or cause some initial confusion, but I'm confident that over time, as we work through various examples, the questions will be answered and any confusion resolved. Since there are many other Daughters of the King groups out there, we need to make sure our "Order of the Daughters of the King" stays protected. Our actual name, "The Order of the Daughters of the KingŪ" is trademarked as are both crosses, Junior and senior, and the senior cross with the words around the left side. As we continue to grow in our understanding of how to best protect our sacred emblems, we appreciate your cooperation in taking these extra steps. The "Instructions for Using the Registered Trademarked Emblems" can be found on our website at www.doknational.com/crosses. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

Upcoming 2nd National Assembly in Haiti
|
 | | Students and mission team, St Vincent's School for the Handicapped, Haiti |
The Order of the Daughters of the King in Haiti (L'Ordres Filles du Roi) has been growing by the grace of God since they first assembled in November, 2010. There are now 26 chapters throughout Haiti with 489 members, including 36 active Junior daughters as well! Plans are underway for the next National Assembly to be held in Port-au-Prince on Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24. At this writing several U.S. Daughters are planning to join me for this blessed event. The tentative itinerary will run from November 21 - 25 and will include a tour of Port-au-Prince, a visit to an Episcopal church and school outside of the city as well as a visit to St. Vincent's School for the Handicapped and Haitian craft workshops. Accommodations will be at a peaceful retreat atmosphere guesthouse and the cost of the 5-day trip is approximately $350 per person in addition to the airfare from your home location to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Please contact Joyce Pipkin at joyceapipkin@gmail.com as soon as possible if you are interested in joining this inspiring pilgrimage!

Prayer Line
|
The following excerpt from the Prayer Line sent by the Rev. David and Carol Pileggi at Christ Church, Jerusalem, suggests ways to pray for the violence in the Middle East, as well as practical ways to get involved.
- First and foremost pray: that extremist groups will be exposed; that leaders who rely on violence will be removed; for refugees, especially those of the household of faith; for strategies to bring the unrest and slaughter to an end; that God would bring peace and order to our region and world.
- Pray also that Israel will be protected and continue to be a blessing to its neighbors during these troubled times. Already hundreds of Syrians have been treated in Israeli hospitals.
- Pray for God's wisdom and guidance about doing something practical: be informed; write to elected representatives; organize prayer meetings; hold a vigil outside a Syrian or Egyptian Embassy...we might find that small actions can bring big results.
- Help. There are many Christian organizations working with more than 2 million Syrian refugees. Here at Christ Church we have been assisting Christian refugees in Turkey and Jordan.
- Support reconciliation. In particular as a follow-up to the May 2012 Crossroads Conference, there will be a gathering at Christ Church next year in which Druze, Kurds, Turks, Jews, Arabs, Berbers, Armenians and other Middle Eastern believers will meet together for prayer and fellowship in the context of finding ways to advance God's Kingdom throughout our area. This event needs prayer and financial support.
Shalom and Hag Sameach,
David and Carol Pileggi
