For Faithfulness in Service

O Lord, Jesus Christ, head of the mystical body of the church of which we are members, cleanse our eyes to see you, quicken our ears to hear you, open our lips to show forth your praise, give our hands skill to do your bidding, and make our feet swift to go where you guide, that your Kingdom may come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, all for your dear sake. AMEN

Meeting Space Blessing

As groups of Daughters gather - large or small, in chapter meetings, diocesan or provincial assemblies, quiet days, weekend retreats, or planning meetings - we frequently pray for the Holy Spirit to be with us during our gathering time. Following is a prayer written by Donna Abramov, Province I President and Worship/Devotions co-Chair, asking that we, as well as our time together, and our meeting space be blessed and made holy. We invite you to use this prayer as you gather for your various meetings this spring.

We look to the East

to the dawning of the light of the new day

to the light of Christ in our lives

let the light of Christ shine forth from us

let us be the light of Christ to the world.

We look to the South

to the warm breezes that flow through our lives

let the warmth of God's loving embrace be with us always

may that warm love spill forth from us

Warm our hearts, minds and souls to the love of God.

We look to the North

the chill winds of the north sometimes fill our lives

Holy Spirit, guide our lives in these times of trouble or sorrow

let your healing spirit guide us through the trials of this earthly life

be with us always we pray.

We look to the West

the day is ending, the sun is setting

we have been filled with the light of Jesus

the love of God and the healing of the Holy Spirit

Now send us forth to spread your word of light, love and healing.

Let us always remember it is your will

Not our will that we are called to do

Watch over us and keep us in your loving embrace, we pray.

Terry and Pam Newton, missionaries with Faith Journey Missions, Inc., sent us this photo (below) upon their return from their recent mission trip to Chengdu, China. The photo was taken at one of the seven churches they visited while helping to distribute 4500 Bibles. The happy smiling faces in the photo represent the warm, enthusiastic, and friendly receptions Terry and Pam said they received throughout their trip. Terry and Pam believe this trip would not have been possible without the prayers and support of our Order and they thank us.

Smooth Operations

The members of the Executive Board work with the staff at the National Office on a daily basis and have made a solemn commitment to the ladies in the office: At every opportunity we will remind Daughters to read instructions carefully and then follow them when it comes to filling out forms and sending them into the office. It is amazing how much time the staff spends researching and correcting information submitted by Daughters not carefully reading and following instructions. Daughters need to take the responsibility to read accompanying instructions, fully complete forms, and ensure "all i's are dotted and t's are crossed" prior to submitting forms for orders, dues, and new member/charter applications. Some examples of the problems the staff encounters include applications not signed by the clergy, dues payments or orders without complete member information, and submissions without all required supporting documentation. By submitting correctly completed forms and documents you help the staff process your request quickly and accurately. Please contact the National Office at (770) 517-8552 extension 24, if you need assistance or have a question while preparing a form.

Nebraska Womens Ministries - The Diocese that Sews

Nebraska women have taken on a sewing project with a great outcome! When two Nebraska missioners recently left on a plane, they were carrying 48 pounds of reusable sanitary pads and panties; that was just under 200 sets.

This project was the brain-child of Claudianna Todd from All Saints Episcopal Church in Omaha. She had been to the Sudan, to the Diocese of Twic East, a few years ago and learned that a girl's education was severely impeded because she stayed out of school when she was menstruating-there were no pads available. So Claudianna came back with an idea: If we could find a pattern to make reusable pads and purchase panties, it would be possible to help girls stay in school. It would also help adult women who were menstruating be more a part of their communities.

On Claudianna's second trip to the Sudan, she took pads and panties and saw the grateful responses of the girls and women.

When she came back, she talked to anyone who would listen, and the Daughters of the King Assembly adopted it as a project, as did the Sudan Mission Team at All Saints Church. Daughters of the King called it the Red Tent Project.

This past fall, Claudianna had two training sessions in her home for people to learn how to make the pads and spend time in fellowship. Then Beth Agar, a woman from St. Martha's in Papillion with strong backing from her parish priest, Ernesto Medina, had a weekend sew-a-thon. Beth and her crew made over 120 sets, and using two different patterns, women at All Saints also helped with making kits.

Other groups are planning to have sewing parties, and plan to send the pads and panties with people who travel to the Sudan and with the Bishop's group when the Bishop from Twic East makes a visit to the U.S. We try to meet the needs of our companion dioceses in ways that are distinctly Nebraskan. In this case, we sewed our way into mission work.
