A Prayer for the Feast of St Michael and All Angels (Sept 29)

Everlasting God,
you have ordained and constituted in a wonderful order
the ministries of angels and mortals:
Mercifully grant that,
as your holy angels always serve and worship you in heaven,
so by your appointment
they may help and defend us here on earth;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Amen

Truth and Consequences of the

Chapter Dues Relief Status Bylaw

Truth

While it is true that our new bylaw (Article III Section 6, H) states that a Daughter upon reaching the age of 85 may apply to be relieved of paying her annual dues (this does not happen automatically), the rationale of the new bylaw is that this Daughter is in deteriorating health. Chapters may apply on her behalf when she is in failing health and can no longer take part in activities or meetings.

However, it is also true that this bylaw may apply to any Daughter reaching the age of 85. But.....

Consequences

When a Daughter is approved for dues relief that means she will no longer be eligible to be a delegate at Triennial or hold office and she will not receive The Royal Cross unless she subscribes. It also means that no money will be returned to the diocesan assembly or the province in her name.

Please take this into consideration as members of your chapter seek to take advantage of this new bylaw. And remember, financial assistance is still available through chapters, diocesan assemblies and provinces for members who need help paying their dues.

Our Order continues to expand around the world as Daughters, often Daughters at Large, share the blessings of praying and serving in community so that the Kingdom may be spread far and wide.

  • We have a new chapter forming in Panama where we have not had a chapter for decades. Three DAL's are meeting weekly and will be studying with other ladies in their church as they prepare for Bp. Romero's visit in December or January to institute the chapter.
  • We have not been able to locate senior Daughters in Uganda for quite some time. But a new chapter is forming in Kabale under the guidance of a DAL from Colorado who returned to her homeland several years ago.
  • We have found the Daughters in Cuba and there are at least seven active chapters! Communication is still difficult, but we are trying to maintain contact with them.
  • Annemarie Delgado and Rosemarie Valentine (Europe Coordinator) have traveled through Germany this month holding retreats and planting seeds for several chapters which we hope will be forming soon.

Malawi
Alice Mtenje and Irene Chirwa

The Triennial Assembly in Malawi celebrated their 12th anniversary in August with 350 ladies attending their retreat! The picture is of Alice Mtenje, who served as President for 6 years, passing on the cross plaque which symbolizes the Presidency, to the new President, Irene Chirwa.

The Daughters in Honduras will be assembling on November 3, 2012 in Tegucigalpa. Missy Denny and Lana Valenta will be with them on this momentous occasion.

Please keep all our International Daughters in your prayers, as well as those who are traveling to represent the Order. You can also help by becoming a Prayer Partner, assisting with translations, sponsoring a forming chapter, or donating to the international fund or the Cross Fund which defrays the cost of crosses where needed.

The Answer Woman

pat lewis We all have one. A trusted friend we call when we have a question and want to get an answer we can trust in a hurry. She can help with a problem, provide a little boost to our self-esteem, and every now and then a 'sanity check' when things seem to be a little crazy.

When it comes to Daughters of the King, however, many of us pick up the phone and call the National Office to get our questions answered. The wonderful ladies in the National Office seem like our own personal 'Help Desk', and they are always ready and willing to help us find the answer we're looking for, no matter how long it takes. You may even be on a first-name basis with one or more of them.

Our National Office staff are some of the hardest-working women you'll ever meet, but each of them has a specific job to do, and when she has to stop working to handle our questions it slows up the regular work that needs to happen to keep our membership records updated, mail sorted, dues posted, orders sent out and resources kept current, among other things.

To do your part to ease the load on our wonderful office staff we would like to remind you to take your questions first to your chapter leadership: the president for most questions and the treasurer to find out if your dues check was mailed yet. Your chapter officers can tell you your Chapter ID, your Member number, your Diocese and your Province. And if she cannot answer your question, your chapter president can usually find the answer by asking the diocesan assembly president. (Daughters at Large can ask the DAL chair in the diocese, or the president if there is no DAL chair.)

If the question cannot be answered by the diocesan assembly president, she may take it up-line to the province president, the Ultimate Answer Woman. Your province president has a wonderful network of other province presidents, and they work together to find out the answers to all the questions a Daughter might have. In fact, they really want to know your concerns so they can represent you effectively and can make sure all Daughters are informed and have all the answers we need.

One other option available to you 24 hours a day is our web page Frequently Asked Questions. Most common questions are answered here: http://doknational.com/faq.html.

My hope is that you are able to find all the answers you are looking for. It's much easier if you know where to start looking.

Reminders to Our Members

  1. The $5 dues increase approved at Triennial begins next year, 2013, not this year. Dues will be $40 and will be due September 1, 2013. If you have not paid your dues for this year please pay $35 right away.
  2. A Daughter reaching the age of 85 does not automatically qualify for dues relief. She must apply for herself or the chapter can apply on her behalf. Please see the "Truth or Consequences" article regarding the Chapter Relief Status bylaw.
  3. Please be sure to send separate checks for dues and orders. In other words, send one check for member's dues and one check for orders. Do not combine them into one check.
  4. Please be sure to fill out all forms completely, that includes transition forms, order forms and payment forms.
  5. Do not re-type your chapter list; just update the form that was sent to you. It's easier to do it that way anyway.
  6. The next to both the Daughters' cross and the Junior cross, and also after the full title, "The Order of the Daughters of the King" means that both crosses with their inscriptions and the full name of the Order are registered trademarks which belong to the Order. As such, they should only be used by chartered chapters or other officially sponsored entities of the Order, including online publications. Check out the "How to Use the Order's Trademarked Logos" on our website for more information.
