The 2015 [FALL] Edition Lecture Series is in full swing. All lectures are held in Cranbrook Art Museum's deSalle Auditorium and are free to ArtMembers and students with identification, and included with Museum admission for the general public. The Museum will remain open prior to each lecture. Our October lectures feature Participatory Media: Theory and History on October 6, A Frightful Leap into Darkness: Auto-Destructive Art and Extinction on October 7, Cranbrook Academy of Art Artist-in-Residence Sabbatical Talks on October 13, and An Evening with Jennifer Navva Milliken on October 27. Cranbrook Schools' Fall 2015 Open House OpenHouse
Cranbrook Schools' Fall 2015 Open House is taking place on Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The event is open to all families with children considering pre-kindergarten through high school. During the event, families will be able to meet some of our world-class teachers, get an up-close look at our facilities, and speak with members of our admission team. It is the best way for interested families to understand why a Cranbrook education truly offers opportunity you will find nowhere else - opportunity that lasts a lifetime. Only 11 days left of Nick Cave: Here Hear! Don't miss the chance to see the exhibition featuring the work of Cranbrook Academy of Art alum Nick Cave at Cranbrook Art Museum before it closes on Oct 11. In addition to his ornate Soundsuits, you will see newly commissioned artworks, a site-specific tapestry, recent sculpture work, and a projection room showing the artist's video work. The Cranbrook Music Guild welcomes renowned pianist Angela Hewitt on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30 pm at Christ Church Cranbrook. Angela Hewitt has sold out concert halls the world over. Celebrate Halloween During Fright After Dark Fright
CIS After Dark returns for the 2015-2016 season to investigate the science of scary with Fright, an evening of Halloween fun for adults 21+ on Thursday, October 15 from 7:00 to 11:00 pm. Spooky science experiments, creepy conversations, Fright-themed cocktails and food, and the chance to make glow-in-the-dark slime will make for a frightfully good time. Dr. Christine Rabinak (Assistant Professor, WSU Department of Pharmacy Practice) joins us to discuss the human response to scary stimuli. University of Detroit Mercy Chem Club will bring startling chemistry demonstrations. Spirit Hunter Sandy Lyons, and Skeptic Robert Elmouchi take the stage as they debate the presence of paranormal activity. Enjoy the new Bats: Superheroes of the Night exhibit and learn why we shouldn't fear these furry nighttime fliers. Costumes are encouraged - scary, spooky, or funny! Preregistered tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Day of admission is $20 at the door. Register here
Halloween Science Celebrates the Science of Scary Halloween
It's time for the creepiest, coolest, scariest, science fun of the year when the Institute of Science presents Halloween Science. Vampire Bats, screaming ghosts, hands-on activities, trebuchet launches, cockroach races, and a haunted rollercoaster ride in the planetarium are part of the Institute's 2015 Halloween Science event. Join zany Dr. Kelp as he presents Cranbrook Ground Zero and see if his theory that an asteroid will strike Cranbrook during Halloween Science is true! Costumes are encouraged. New this year, a Friday evening event on October 16 at 6:30 pm, and two sessions on Saturday, October 17 at 11:00 am and 3:30 pm, makes planning easy and flexible. Historic House Tours Continue Through October CHTours
Cranbrook's public tours of three historic residential properties conclude for the season on October 31. Guided by Cranbrook House and Gardens Auxiliary volunteer docents, tours of Cranbrook House, the estate of Cranbrook founders George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth, are offered Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at select times. The 40 acres of brilliant gardens that surround this historic Arts & Crafts style manor home are open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission to Cranbrook Gardens is FREE all day, every day through the end of the season, courtesy of sponsors PNC Bank, Roberts Restaurant Group, and Meijer. Located at the heart of Cranbrook Academy of Art, Saarinen House served as the home and studio of the Finnish-American designer Eliel Saarinen and his wife, Loja Saarinen; tours depart from Cranbrook Art Museum Fridays through Sundays at select times. The Smith House in Bloomfield Hills is a custom home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright; tours are available on Fridays and Sundays at select times.

Cranbrook's Master PlanLegacy
President Dominic DiMarco will host a special reception for Cranbrook Legacy Society members and friends with remarks on the Master Plan at Cranbrook on Thursday, October 29, 2015, from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm at the Cranbrook House Library. Cranbrook has recently taken an extensive and thoughtful look at its Master Plan and President DiMarco looks forward to updating Cranbrook Legacy Society members and friends on its progress at this Fall's Living Legacy event. Save the date! Cranbrook Art Museum will host 
its ArtMembers' Opening of its fall exhibitions on November 20. The exhibitions include: Lou Reed, Metal Machine Trio: The Creation of the Universe; Empire; Liz Cohen: HIM; and The Cranbrook Salon. Featuring a fully immersive 3D sound lab, a 1964 film by Andy Warhol, and more! The slate of exhibitions is impressive and not to be missed. Save the date!
