2014 [FALL] Edition Lecture Series  CAAlectures
In its sixth season, the [FALL] Edition Lecture Series at Cranbrook Academy of Art offers a unique opportunity to discuss a variety of contemporary creative practices. All lectures are structured to explore all forms of innovative inquiry from the vantage point of artists, critics, and scholars. Lectures are held in Cranbrook Art Museum's deSalle Auditorium and are free to ArtMembers and students with identification. Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research Announces its Fourth Day Away Bus Trip to Okemos and East Lansing DayAway

Join the Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research on its fourth Day Away bus trip October 11, to visit two of Michigan's most radical works of architecture. Although their completion dates are separated by 73 years, Frank Lloyd Wright's Goetsch-Winckler House (1939-1940) in Okemos and Zaha Hadid's Broad Art Museum in East Lansing (2012) each reveal what it meant and means to have your life and work redefined by great contemporary architecture.

Fall 2014 Lecture Series CenterLectures
"Boom Town meets the Wild West" in the first of three lectures in the Center's falls series. All lectures take place in the deSalle Auditorium at Cranbrook Art Museum. Admission is free for Friends of the Center and members of Cranbrook's Art Museum, House & Gardens Auxiliary, Institute of Science, and full-time students with ID. Admission is $10 for non-members. Cranbrook Schools Fall 2014 Open House OpenHouse
Cranbrook Schools' fall 2014 Open House takes place on October 12, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. The event is open to all families with children considering pre-kindergarten through high school. During your visit, you and your family will be able to meet some of our world-class teachers, get an up-close look at our facilities, and speak with members of our admission team. See the Fall Colors on Your Walk Through Cranbrook Gardens and Enjoy a Tour & Lunch at Cranbrook House CHG
Don't miss the last lunch and tour of Cranbrook House this season, on October 16. Let our expert volunteer docents guide you around the famous Booth home designed by Albert Kahn. After the tour, enjoy lunch in the oldest manor home in metro-Detroit. Tour and lunch includes admission to Cranbrook Gardens; it's a perfect time for a self-guided visit and viewing of the fall colors! Parking available at Christ Church Cranbrook. Please note: The Sunken Garden annuals have been pulled for the season 
Cranbrook Kingswood Homecoming Homecoming

On Saturday, October 18, Cranbrook Schools will celebrate the naming of Del Walden Field in the renovated Thompson Oval. Please join us on the Alumni Courtyard Terrace, where we will gather to enjoy the game with Del Walden and friends in honor of this very special occasion. The dedication ceremony begins at 12:45 pm, followed by the Homecoming Football game at 1:00 p.m.


Halloween Science at CIS HalloweenScience
Vampire Bats, owls, screaming ghosts, blazing pumpkins, giant hissing cockroaches, and a haunted rollercoaster ride in the planetarium are all part of Halloween Science at Cranbrook Institute of Science on Saturday, October 18. The spookiest, and most popular annual event the Institute offers will dazzle scientist wannabes young and old. Costumes are encouraged! Halloween Science tickets for pre-registered attendees are $13 per child and $2 per adult for Members, and $16 per child and $5 per adult for the general public. Two times 2 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. make for easy planning. Click here to register or learn more!
Crandemonium at Cranbrook Art Museum Crandemonium
Please join us for a night of clandestine surprises as we go behind the scenes to celebrate Cranbrook Art Museum.
Food, entertainment, and art from Cranbrook Academy of Art's talented alumni will fill our gallery spaces. All proceeds benefit Cranbrook Art Museum's education programs, which work to bring Cranbrook's spirit of innovation and creativity to underserved areas in our region. Cranbrook to Honor Former Academy Director 
Gerhardt Knodel Gerhardt

To honor his contributions to Cranbrook, the Board of Trustees has named former Cranbook Academy of Art Director Gerhardt Knodel Director Emeritus. The honor will be formally bestowed when Gerhardt returns to Cranbrook's campus on Sunday, October 26 at 4 p.m. to present Let the Games Begin, a look at his most current body of work. Following a long and eventful journey at Cranbrook Academy of Art where he was head of the Fiber Department (1970-1995) and Director of the Academy (1995-2007), Knodel returned to full-time studio practice in 2008. 

The public is invited to attend this event which takes place in deSalle Auditorium at Cranbrook Art Museum. A selection of Gerhardt's new work will be on display at Wasserman Projects through November 7, 2014. 

Holiday Tables Grand Finale at Cranbrook House HolidayTables
Welcome the holiday season with Holiday Tables one last time at Cranbrook House, from November 20-23. The grand finale of this annual fundraiser will feature magnificently decorated tables in the elegant and festive setting of Cranbrook House, a formal buffet tea, holiday cocktail party, and of course, holiday cheer! Cranbrook House becomes as magical as the season itself during this wonderful weekend. Proceeds support the preservation and restoration of Cranbrook House and Gardens.
