U of I Students Present Semester's Work
| | |
Before finishing the semester, students in the University of Illinois COVE Registered Student Organization (RSO) presented their research at two separate symposiums. At the School of Earth, Society, and Environment Poster Symposium, the students showcased their research on water and agricultural development at the COVE School since 2012.
At the Undergraduate Research Symposium, COVE RSO students presented a poster showcasing their work throughout the 2015 spring semester, and indicating the goals they have for their visit to the COVE School this summer. Thank you to the U of I COVE RSO students for their hard work and dedication to COVE! To view the Research Boards visit the COVE Alliance website. |

Volunteer Teams Headed to Uganda
| | |
|
Several groups are visiting Uganda this summer. We cheer these teams as they serve the St. Jerome COVE Center. Below is a list of these groups and their planned work.
Fr. Tom Kovatch and his delegates from St. Charles Borremeo in Bloomington, Indiana arrived in Uganda June 9th to paint P1-P2 classrooms, and to build a shed for general storage. The group received a warm welcome from the COVE staff and children- lots of joy, excitement, and entertainment was reported! During their first day at COVE, the delegates distributed shoes to each of the COVE children. For some of the children, this was the first pair of shoes they had ever received.
The children of St. Charles Borremeo Parish and the students of the St. Jerome COVE center are now connecting from overseas. Fr. Tom and the St. Charles delegates will visit the families and schools of the sponsored children, see the community health outreach program, and participate in the student's debate club.
The LINC group from the University of Illinois will arrive at the COVE center June 22nd. The LINC students, who will be accompanied by former board member & co-director of LINC, Valeri Werpetinski, plan to investigate the installation of lightning rods, clearing of the border of the agricultural site, and development of a greenhouse to germinate seeds for future planting on that site. In addition to developing a topographical map of the COVE campus, the LINC group will review the campus drainage needs, the gutters, the water filters in the classrooms, and the solar power system.
COVE Alliance Board Member Ellen Cwick will lead a group of staff and students from Vernon Hills High School to Uganda in July. Ellen and her group plan to work with the COVE school staff to discuss professional teaching and administrative methodology. They have also planned a day of olympic activities for the children.
Please continue to keep all of our delegates in your prayers.
