St. Jerome COVE Guest House
| |
|

The guest house may not be the Hilton but it cuts all wasted travel time and allows our visiting guests to spend all their valuable time doing what they came to do, work with our family at COVE. When the day is done it will provide a place to relax and take in all that has been accomplished. It has not been without trials, such as rainy weather, issues with procurement of materials, and a security problem that did cost us some funds, but has been addressed and corrected for the future. It is also going to be used as a revenue source to house travelers destined for local conferences/training. It is on track to be completed by the end of July. We thank you all for your continued support and generosity.

COVE Partners With Princeton University
| | |
|

GlobeMed began in 2007 with a small group of university students and now engages over 2,000 undergraduates at 55 university-based chapters throughout the U.S. Each chapter is partnered one-to-one with a grassroots health organization in one of 19 countries. This year COVE Alliance was selected to partner with Princeton University. These students will be fundraising for a project to provide running water to our health center. The Princeton students left for Uganda at the end of May to evaluate how they could impact the health needs and to collaborate with the COVE community. They returned the end of June. These are their comments.
"Traveling to Uganda for the first time, we had no idea what to expect. Being so far away from our families and friends was a little scary and intimidating. However, as soon as we met the staff and children, they made us feel extremely welcome, and within the first few days, we felt like a part of the COVE family. We've made good friendships with a lot of the staff and children, whether it be playing games with the kids every day or dominoes with the staff every night. All of the teachers, nurses, and especially Joseph and some of the students have made this one of the most life-changing and fun experiences we have ever had.
During the day, we traveled to some of the schools around St. Jerome COVE Primary School. It was really nice to see the changes that COVE Alliance is making in the lives of the children sponsored at each school. We were warmly welcomed at the schools by the children and the staff, and we had the chance to interact with the sponsored children at the end of each visit. Although the children were initially shy, they started to open up once we asked them questions about their favorite colors, subjects, and future goals. Meeting the sponsored children has inspired us to get involved in the sponsorship process."
