Fr. Leo Reflects on Visit to US
| | |
Fr. Leo Bagenda, the Chairman of COVE Uganda, recently visited the United States and met with the COVE US Board. Fr. Leo wrote of his experience in the following letter:
In the afternoon of Thursday, September 26th 2013 I arrived in Chicago. I was so honoured to be received at O'Hare Airport by my friend Ellen. I must say the reception I received in Chicago from all our COVE partners was exceptional. For the last couple of years, I have been honoured to receive a few COVE friends from Chicago but without knowing exactly where they resided.
This was a golden chance to meet them in their homeland.
Whenever you come to know where a friend comes from, you come to appreciate and love them more. This is exactly my experience when I arrived in Chicago. Jerry Nora took me to the St Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein and Ellen Cwick took me on a tour of the Vernon Hills high school. While visiting these institutions I realized that in Africa, we still have a very long way to go. I put my hand in Lake Michigan, visited the Bean and the John Hancock observatory, just to name a few, when Ellen took me on a tour of Chicago.
I was honoured to concelebrate Mass with Fr. Joe and serve a very large congregation. That afternoon I had the privilege of meeting the COVE USA board. I assured them that in Kapeeka we shall collaborate, be accountable and make sure that all the money they send for the cause of COVE children, will always be put to it's intended purpose. Indeed I took this opportunity to thank the board and all our partners in the US for the assistance they provide for the sponsored children at the St. Jerome COVE campus.
Finally I must say that my visit to Chicago was great. I do still remember with a lot of nostalgia, the encounter I had with Ellen, Betty, Pam, Jerry, Pat, Darlene, Peter, Bill, Carol, Tom, Eve, Fr. Joe, Gina (at the High School reception), Tiffany and others.
All the best in life.
Fr. Leo Bagenda
