By Jon Plant, DVM, DACVD Atopica® (cyclosporine) and Apoquel® (oclacitinib) are separate and distinct medications. Happy New Year!

I've been using the RESPIT approach to immunotherapy for almost six years in my dermatology referral practice. In over 1000 patients I have found it to be as effective as the "allergen-specific" immunotherapy that I previously prescribed based on intradermal tests or serum allergy tests. What has your experience been?

Itchology™ helps pet owners and veterinarians care for itchy dogs.

Itchology
is designed to help you and pet owners chart and make sense of the factors that often influence pruritus.

Features:

*  Record your dog's itch level daily using a sliding scale modeled after a proven measure of itch severity

*  Track medications and schedule medication reminders for yourself

*  Correlate itch level with local weather data that is automatically downloaded to your iPhone

*  Record diet changes and baths

*  Track flea exposure and set reminders for treatment

*  Share access to your pet's profile and collected data with your veterinarian, spouse, or pet sitter

*  Connect with a community of dog lovers to discuss your dog's itching and treatment

Measuring and recording health parameters is good medicine. We do it to manage weight and blood sugar, why not for itch, the number one reason dogs see veterinarians? Using the Itchology for iPhone allows pet owners to contribute to their dog's skin care as never before!

It will be free for a few days, then $4.99. In the coming months, we will update www.itchology.com so that you can view shared pet profiles on a desktop browser in your exam room.

The largest veterinary dermatology practices in the United States are recommending itchology to their clients, how about you?

AtopiScore smartphone web app facilitates quick grading of skin lesion severity

You can accurately track your patient's improvement with your choice of two validated lesion severity indices. The CADLI (canine atopic dermatitis lesion index) prompts you to score 5 body regions (0-5 scale) and the CADESI-4 (canine atopic dermatitis extent and severity index, 4th iteration) prompts you to score 20 body regions (0-3 scale). I am partial to the CADLI, since I developed it, but take your pick!

By grading dogs' skin lesion severity at each examination, veterinarians are able to more accurately evaluate improvement or worsening of their condition.

AtopiScore is optimized for smartphones, but can be viewed in most up-to-date browsers on tablets and desktops as well. Browse to www.atopiscore.com and save it to your home page.
