Greetings!
Readers of the SkinVet Blog will know that I have shared my thoughts on the Apoquel backorder and my experience with Apoquel in the 100+ dogs that I've had the opportunity to treat. If not, you can catch up with the links to the left.
You may have also noted that I have been developing a few software tools to aid in the monitoring of our atopic patients. Developing measurement scales is an interest of mine that goes back to the times when I sat down to design studies on atopic dermatitis. I was often stymied by not having reliable outcome measures for pruritus or skin lesion severity.
Things have improved since those days and I'm hoping we will all take pruritus scoring and lesion scoring to the next level and begin using them in practice! You wouldn't consider it good medicine to treat obesity without recording a weight or body condition score. Sharpen up your derm exams of atopic dogs by recording skin lesion and pruritus severity. I'll give you some tools to do it!

AtopiScore smartphone web app facilitates quick grading of skin lesion severity
|
You can accurately track your patient's improvement with your choice of two validated lesion severity indices. The CADLI (canine atopic dermatitis lesion index) prompts you to score 5 body regions (0-5 scale) and the CADESI-4 (canine atopic dermatitis extent and severity index, 4th iteration) prompts you to score 20 body regions (0-3 scale). I am partial to the CADLI, since I developed it, but take your pick! By grading dogs' skin lesion severity at each examination, veterinarians are able to more accurately evaluate improvement or worsening of their condition. AtopiScore is optimized for smartphones, but can be viewed in most up-to-date browsers on tablets and desktops as well. Browse to www.atopiscore.com and save it to your home page. |

Itchology app: itch tracking, medication reminders, and correlation finder for dedicated pet parents
|
I see pet owners every day who want to give me details that might help uncover causes of their dog's pruritus. Unfortunately, the chronology gets jumbled over time, pruritus levels fluctuate, flea control doses are missed, and seasons change. Useful records are not usually kept.
Itchology is designed to help you and the pet owner make sense of the factors that can influence pruritus.
Among the features of Itchology:
- Daily itch tracking
- Medication tracking
- Medication reminders
- Graphical correlation of itch level with changes in weather, pollen counts, medications, flea counts, food, and bathing

Itchology should be released in the Apple App Store in early November. Sign up now to get notified when it is released at www.itchology.com. It will be free for a short while, then $4.99. I hope that you find itchology useful and recommend it to all your clients who have itchy dogs! Give your clients and colleagues a "heads-up" and Like itchology.
