SkinVet Clinic e-News
Greetings!
It's been a warm, long summer -- perfect weather for fleas. Don't get complacent about flea control! Think of it as prevention. If you would like to read about our experience with Apoquel, the newest medication for allergies in dogs, check out my itchydogblog. We have a limited supply of Apoquel, but can start additional dogs on it if another stops taking it. Dr. Jon Plant, with Brittany, Patty and Becky |

Research News The CADLI scale for measuring skin lesion severity in dogs with allergies was used in the study awarded "Best Clinical Research by an Established Investigator" award at the European meeting of veterinary dermatologists in Salzburg, Austria. Dr. Plant has now created a web app (www.atopiscore.com) with which veterinarians around the world can easily access his scale for free. Last year, Dr. Plant received the same award in Valencia, Spain for his research entitled "Reproducibility of allergen-specific IgE assays and ensuing immunotherapy recommendations from four laboratories." The study found that the agreement between the four allergy testing laboratories was only slightly better than could be expected by chance alone. Many of you have heard about this study from the horse's mouth! |
Get Itchology, the first iPhone app to help pet owners of itchy dogs uncover causes and find effective treatments
Dr. Plant has been busy this year developing an iPhone app called Itchology. This truly unique app will help itchy dogs by gathering and organizing the information that veterinarians need to help your pet. He has found over the years that you want to contribute valuable information that can aid your pet's comfort. This app will help you do that.
Among the features of Itchology:

- Daily itch tracking
- Medication tracking
- Medication reminders
- Correlation of itch level with changes in weather, pollen counts, medications, flea counts, food, and bathing.
We expect Itchology to be released in 3-4 weeks. Sign up to get notified when it is released at www.itchology.com. We plan to make it free for a short while, then it will be $4.99. A feline version may follow. View a demo video and Like Itchology at www.facebook.com/ itchology.
