The class will take place on Saturday, August 22, from 10 a.m. to noon and will be taught by instructor Martha Ray. Pop-up cards have been around for centuries. Cards of the golden era featured hand painting, ribbon, opening doors revealing second layers and rivets for support and mechanical motion. The depth and style of the cards are enjoyed by people of all ages.

Instructor Martha Ray will teach the basics of card making and how to make envelopes. At the workshop guests will learn the cutting and folding techniques for simple pop-up designs, along with sentiments to write inside the cards. Each participant will make between five and ten cards, depending on time. Ray also will provide patterns and instructions. Participants need to bring a pair of small, sharp scissors, but all other supplies will be furnished. The cost for the workshop is $10. Preregistration by August 13 is necessary due to space constraints. Please call 580-463-2441 for more information.

Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center | Enid, OK
CSRHC Enid
Come, stake your claim as a Special Event Volunteer and be a part of all that's happening at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center.  As the name implies, Special Event Volunteers are volunteers that work during special events and do not typically work a weekly set schedule. "The Fall is a particularly busy time of year at the Heritage Center with living history events held on the grounds of Humphrey Heritage Village.  Volunteers are essential to the success of these events," said Andi Holland, Director of the CSRHC. New Volunteer Orientation will be held on Saturday, August 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Village Church of the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center. The orientation will include volunteer processes and information on the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center followed by a tour of Humphrey Heritage Village.

Annual living history events are held on Friday evenings and include the Frontier Festival in May, historic Lantern Tours in the middle of September, and Christmas in the Village held the first week of December. Additionally, Family Farm Day is held on a Saturday in mid-October.  "Working living history events and reenacting a historic character is a fun way to be involved in the Heritage Center for those with a limited schedule," said Cody Jolliff, Education Director, "We have the stories and the clothes, we just need more people to bring them to life."

If you enjoy interacting with people and are enthusiastic about the history of the Cherokee Strip then volunteering at the Heritage Center is for you. In addition to being a Special Event Volunteer, there are a variety of other fun and meaningful volunteer opportunities available including information desk attendants, curatorial assistants, tour guides and research assistants.

Volunteer orientation provides an inside look at what being a member of the Heritage Center team is all about before making a decision. Following orientation, individuals will complete the interview process including a background check.
